The Cincinnati Bengals’ start to the 2023 NFL season has been far from ideal, as they find themselves in a 0-2 deficit after a loss to their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens, in Week 2.

Despite showing improvement in their performance against the Ravens compared to their Week 1 game against the Cleveland Browns, the Bengals are struggling to regain their status as a legitimate contender for the AFC Super Bowl title.

What happened with Burrow?

Things got even worse for Cincinnati when Burrow aggravated the calf injury he suffered during training camp during Sunday’s loss to the Ravens. According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, Burrow acknowledged tweaking his calf, and it’s currently quite sore, which raises concerns for the Bengals’ prospects moving forward.

Calf strains, much like hamstring strains, can be unpredictable injuries that can resurface unexpectedly, even if they initially appear to have healed. This situation could persist throughout the 2023 NFL season, posing a significant challenge for the Bengals and their championship aspirations.

In Week 2 against the Ravens, Burrow threw for 222 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, a marked improvement from Week 1 when he recorded a career-low 82 yards passing against the Browns. It’s unfortunate that Burrow’s calf injury resurfaced just as he seemed to be finding his rhythm, especially considering that the Bengals lost to the Ravens by only three points.
