Having seen the legal system run its course, the Cowboys and their star signal-caller can now rest easy with the knowledge that he is in no way guilty of what he was accused of doing. With that, the focus can return to football.

Judge dismisses case brought against Dak Prescott

On Wednesday, reports confirmed that a sexual assault lawsuit filed against Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was dismissed by a Texas judge. The decision brought to an end a legal battle that was related to an alleged incident that occurred in 2017. As per reports, Collin County Judge Angela Tucker dismissed the lawsuit officially on Wednesday and scheduled a hearing for later this year to determine whether any legal action should be taken against Prescott’s accuser.

Speaking in response to the ruling, Prescott’s lawyer, Levi G. McCathern, was frank. “The original lies by [the accuser], her team, and their recent failed attempt to sue him civilly are all just a continuation of their extortion plot against Dak,” McCathern, said in a statement.“ These ploys distract from the trauma of legitimate sexual assault survivors and undermine the progress that our society has made in supporting them.” It should be said that Prescott was in fact investigated by police in connection with the aforementioned incident, which is reported to have occurred in the parking lot of a Dallas-area strip club following his rookie season with the Cowboys. The investigation was dropped last month due to a lack of evidence.

It’s also worth noting that Prescott’s representatives made the accusations public after filing a civil lawsuit against the woman in question. The 30-year-old later claimed that the woman in question was attempting to extort him using false accusations of sexual assault, demanding $100 million for her silence. Further to that, Prescott’s lawyer also alleged that the woman and her attorney sent a letter about the alleged incident to Prescott’s former school, Mississippi State, in January.

What followed was the filing of a countersuit with the details of the sexual assault which was subsequently dropped and refiled in Collin County. Prescott has since stated that he will donate all proceeds from his lawsuit to the Joyful Heart Foundation, an organization that works to fight against sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. The next hearing is set for September 13th.
