Julio Jones will play alongside Tom Brady on the Bucs

According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, Julio Jones will be joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a contract that is for one year. The particulars of the transaction were not disclosed in the beginning.

Since departing the Falcons and following a single season with the Tennessee Titans a year ago, the seven-time Pro Bowl receiver is now playing for his second team since leaving the Atlanta franchise. Together with Tom Brady, he will attempt to win the Super Bowl for the first time in his career.

Jones is joining the Bucs at a time when leading receiver Chris Godwin is still recovering from an ACL and MCL rupture he suffered in Week 15 of the previous season. On January 3, Godwin went in for surgery to fix the harm that had been done. According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, he has received clearance to participate in activities related to training camp and will not be placed on the PUP list. Regardless, it is unclear when he will be able to go back into the lineup.

Is Julio Jones up to the challenge?

At his peak with the Falcons, Jones, now 33 years old, ranked among the most lethal offensive weapons in the game. However, age and injuries have conspired in recent seasons to make him less effective.

In 10 games with Tennessee in 2021, he was held to just 31 receptions for 434 yards and a single score. During his final season with the Falcons in 2020, he played in nine games and finished with 51 receptions, 771 receiving yards, and three touchdowns.

Jones is still a tough cover for defensive backs at 6-3 and 220 pounds, and when he’s healthy, he’s a good target. Once he returns, he will join Mike Evans, who has been to the Pro Bowl four times, Russell Gage, and Chris Godwin in the Bucs’ receiving group.
