The newest edition of EA Sports award winning video game franchise, Madden, won’t come out until the middle of August, but Justin Jefferson will be anxiously awaiting a personal copy after making his first Madden 99 Club.

Jefferson first 99 Cluber of year

The elite club is designated to players who are given a 99 overall rating in the game. When it comes to overall ratings, there are a few different categories or attributes that go towards the OVR. The measurements for each and every player on each roster no matter their position to assign ratings for STR (Strength), AGI (Agility), SPD (Speed), ACC (Acceleration), STA (Stamina), AWR (Awareness), JMP (Jumping), INJ (Injury), and TGH (Toughness). Once all of that is added up an overall rating is giving, and 99 is just about as good as it gets.

For receivers like Jefferson, they are also rated on their other positional abilities like CTH (Catching), CIT (Catch in Traffic), RTE (Route Running), SPC (Spectacular Catch), and RLS (Release). The Minnesota WR is without question familiar with these categories and what it takes to be an Overall 99, since he has been creating a player on Madden and boosting his rating to 99 since he was a kid. Now, as he pointed out in Twitter, he won’t have to create a player.

The ratings started in 1999, and since then there have been more than a few NFL legends to be named to the 99 Club. For two years there were players who were given a 100 overall rating, but Madden quickly took that feature out. The only players to be named to the 100 Club were Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, Shannon Sharpe, Mark Chmura, Tony Boselli, Mike Alstott and Deion Sanders spread out form Madden 1999 and Madden 2000.

There were 15 players named to the first class of the Madden 99 Club in the 1999 version of Madden including six offensive lineman, five defensive lineman and a kicker. Now a days it’s a bit more of an exclusive club, and Jefferson being named to the club got us thinking about one of football’s most exclusive groups.
