Kelce vows to maintain “never stop” mentality after record-breaking performance

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce had another record-breaking game on Monday, but this one will be tough to break.

Update:

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Las Vegas Raiders 30-29 on Monday, and most of the credit for the Chiefs points come from one guy - tight end Travis Kelce. He also achieved an interesting NFL record in the process, by racking up lots of points but very few yards.

Kelce’s first touchdown came in the second quarter of the game on a 1-yard run when the Chiefs were down 17-0. His second came about halfway through the third quarter and was also a 1-yard run. His next came just six minutes later on a 4-yard catch. The last of the four came with 7:25 left in the fourth quarter and was the longest, an 8-yard catch. He had seven catches in the game, those four touchdowns, but only 25 yards.

Thus, Kelce became the first player in NFL history to have four touchdown catches of less than ten yards in the same game. To put it in perspective, the record before that was Marvin Jones’ 93 yards on 10 catches and four touchdowns in 2019, which was the only time a player finished with under 100 yards in a game in which he also had at least four touchdowns.

Kelce also tied the Chiefs’ record for most receiving touchdowns in a game and finished with the second-most touchdown catches by a tight end in a single game in NFL history. He now leads the league in scoring catches with seven total, surpassing Bills receiver Stefon Diggs (5), Ravens tight end Mark Andrews (5), Rams receiver Cooper Kupp (five), and Commanders receiver Jahan Dotson (five).

“I love it. Bring it man, bring it,” said Kelce. “I’m going to make it so you’ve got to bring a triple team. That’s my mentality. I still try and find ways to get open, and in my mind I’m going to have that mentality until I hang these things up.”
