Kellen Moore’s contract situation: This is how much money the Saints’ HC makes
The 37-year-old is about to begin his first year as an NFL head coach and he joins a team on a run of losing seasons.
There will be seven new coaches at the start of the 2025 NFL season, nearly a quarter of the 32-team league.
Perhaps the most intriguing of the new appointments is Kellen Moore, the 37-year-old who will take his first head coaching role with the New Orleans Saints. Moore was the offensive coordinator for Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles last year and he has done a lot in his short coaching career.
Moore is the youngest head coach in the league and he looks set for a huge wage increase with the Saints. His salary details have not been revealed but ESPN report that Moore “is expected to have his salary more than doubled, and possibly tripled" in comparison to his $2.5 million annual earnings with the Eagles. That suggests an average annual salary of between $5 million and $7.5 million for Moore.
Moore takes over a team that has fallen on tough times in recent years, failing to make it to the playoffs in any of the past four seasons. Their .294 record in the 2024 season was the Saints’ worst since 2005 but Moore is confident that the fervent New Orleans crowd can be a difference-maker for the team going forward.
“We have a tremendous advantage in the NFL because of the phenomenal fan base that we have,” Moore said at his introductory press conference back in February. “Because of the home field advantage that the Caesar Superdome provides.”
“And I can attest to the daunting challenge that when you come into the Superdome as a visiting team, the challenges that you’re going to have. Can’t wait to get started. Who Dat Nation, appreciate you. Can’t wait to go. Here we go.”
“It’s very quickly evident,” Moore replied, when asked how important the city of New Orleans is to the team. “It’s a tremendous city. The hospitality and the environment that they provided for the Super Bowl is really special. You quickly saw what makes this place an amazing city. And as we’ve gone through this process, it’s kind of more and more evident we truly can’t wait for this to be our home.”
