Ladd McConkey’s contract details: How much money does the Chargers’ WR make?
The Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver had a breakout rookie season in 2024 and is back for more this year. Here’s how much McConkey is earning in LA.
The NFL is officially back for the Los Angeles Chargers as they kick off the Hall of Fame Game tomorrow against the Detroit Lions. Although we won’t see the starters just yet, there’s still plenty of buzz as Chargers fans get excited to watch their team return to the field.
One player who created a lot of noise last season was wide receiver Ladd McConkey. The Chargers traded up to select McConkey 34th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and he had a standout rookie season with 82 catches for 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns.
He’s back for the 2025 season, and here’s how much he’ll earn with the Chargers.
McConkey’s contract with the Chargers
As a rookie, McConkey signed a four-year, $9.9 million deal with the Chargers, including a $4 million signing bonus and $9.185 million in guaranteed money. At the time, it was a record signing as it made him the highest-paid player drafted at his selection (34th) in NFL history.
While his base salary for the 2024 season was $795,000, that will increase in 2025 to $1,249,327. By the time he enters the final year of his contract in 2027, he’ll be earning a base salary of $2,157,981.
McConkey’s yards and catches in his rookie season set a franchise record in LA. He’s looking to expand on that and do even better this season, even saying he “wanted to beat myself up” after some games because he thought he could’ve played so much better.
He’s earned high praise in training camp already from head coach Jim Harbaugh, making it appear as if he’ll remain one of quarterback Justin Herbert’s top targets this season.
“He’s even better than he was last year,” said Harbaugh. “It’s going to sound like hyperbole, but it’s not. He’s uncoverable right now by one guy. That’s awesome.”
The Chargers will kick off the regular season in São Paulo, Brazil on Friday, September 5 as they take on the Kansas City Chiefs - their first step in taking the AFC West from the nine-time back-to-back division winners.
