Les Snead’s bold gambit: Rams set to land All-Pro Trent McDuffie in blockbuster Chiefs trade
Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead is ready to make a bold move with his “win now” philosophy that could land them All-Pro CB Trent McDuffie from the Chiefs.

The NFL offseason is already heating up, and one of the most intriguing stories revolves around a potential blockbuster trade between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams that could reshape both franchises’ immediate futures.
According to league sources, the Chiefs and Rams are working on a trade that would send All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie from Kansas City to Los Angeles in exchange for a package including the 29th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, a fifth-round pick, a sixth-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick.

McDuffie, a 2022 first-round pick who has already earned multiple All-Pro nods, would be expected to sign a long-term extension with the Rams under this scenario, per league insiders.
Les Snead ready to make bold moves
This isn’t just another rumor. It stems from comments made by Rams general manager Les Snead that suggest Los Angeles is prepared to trade premium draft capital for proven impact talent. Snead publicly acknowledged the Rams’ willingness to use a first-round pick to acquire an “impact veteran”, specifically highlighting the need to improve a secondary that struggled at times last season.

Snead’s remarks were widely interpreted as a signal that the Rams, who hold two first-round picks in 2026, are ready to be aggressive and win now, especially given that quarterback Matthew Stafford is still playing at a high level but may not be in his prime much longer.
That mindset resonates with Rams fans familiar with Snead’s past big-splash moves that brought the franchise a Super Bowl title in the 2021 season. But it also raises questions about the team’s ability to balance present competitiveness with long-term asset management.
Rams fans on social media are ecstatic, praising Snead’s willingness to trade picks for a high-impact defender and referencing his “F*** them picks” philosophy, a nod to Snead’s reputation for aggressive roster building.

McDuffie: A star worth the price?
Trent McDuffie isn’t just any cornerback. He’s a two-time Pro Bowl and All-Pro caliber player, known for his coverage skills both inside and outside, and as one of the Chiefs’ defensive leaders in his four seasons in Kansas City.

At just 25 years old and under contract for the 2026 season on a fifth-year option, McDuffie would bring an immediate upgrade to a Rams secondary that was 19th against the pass in 2025.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, are reportedly over the salary cap by nearly $8.5 million and face the reality that McDuffie will likely command a lucrative extension, possibly in the ballpark of four years and over $100 million if he hits the open market.
From Kansas City’s perspective, trading McDuffie now maximizes the return rather than risking losing him to free agency for nothing after the 2026 season.
In contrast to the Rams fans, Chiefs supporters are more divided, with some saying the haul is fair given McDuffie’s contract situation, while others feel Kansas City should aim for an even bigger return.

Rams receive:
🏈CB Trent McDuffie
Chiefs receive:
🏈1st-round pick, No. 29
🏈5th
🏈6th
🏈2027- 3rd
But even critics acknowledge one thing. McDuffie is a rare young cornerback with elite experience, and landing him would immediately address one of the Rams’ biggest weaknesses.
