Lions 24 vs 14 Packers summary: stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 9
Jared Goff is playing at an MVP level, and has his team playing better than any team in the NFL. They have won 6 straight and lead the NFC at the halfway point of the season. The Lions will now shift focus to another massive primetime game on Sunday night when they travel to Houston to take on the Texans.
The Packers will lick their wounds and try to get ready for the final half of the season during their BYE Week. Obviously the priority is going to be getting Jordan Love as healthy as possible.
Love and the Packers started to move the ball as we went deeper into the second half, but the Lions defense took the wind out of their sails with this 4th down stop with plenty of time still left in the 4th quarter.
After the huge momentum swing to end the half, the Lions got the ball back after the halftime break and this time it was Jahmyr Gibbs who led the Lions down the field with the run game. He polished off the drive with a 15 yard TD run on 4th down as the Lions came up with not just another conversion on 4th down, but a TD on 4th down.
Gibbs had 65 yards on 11 carries and David Montgomery ended the game with 73 yards on 17 carries.
Jordan Love was a question mark leading up to Week 9's Game of the Week. He suffered a groin injury against the Jaguars and had to sit out most of the second half. He was given the green light before the game, and looked okay for the first few quarters, but had a horrendous mistake at the end of the first half that put the Lions up 14 after Kirby Joseph took this interception back for six. Love went 23/39 for 273 yards, but this was the play that changed everything.
It was supposed to be a day in which it would be nearly impossible to pass the ball. Jared Goff showed us otherwise. He connected on his first 11 passes and ended the night 18/22 with 145 yards and 1 TD. He has just 17 incompletions in his last five games, and he is no doubt playing the best football of any QB in the league.
The Lions lost one of their best defenders in the first half, when Brian Branch hit Chirs Brooks with a head to head shot that was originally flagged, and then after a quick call from league officials in New York, it was decided Branch was to be ejected.
The Detroit Lions held on to their place at the top of the NFC with their win over Green Bay on a soggy, windy afternoon from Lambeau. The weather didn't affect Jared Goff who had another near perfect game in the 24-14 divisional win on the road.
Both teams came out and had long, time consuming drives to start the game. The Packers were led by Josh Jacobs who marched them down the field, but the Pack failed to get into the end zone and had to settle for a field goal. David Montgomery did the same for the Lions who got down inside the 5 yard line and on 4th and Goal, Goff hit Amon-Ra St. Brown who made a spectacular catch for the games' first touchdown.
IT'S ALL OVER!!! THE LIONS RATTLE OFF THEIR SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN AND ARE AT THE HALF WAY POINT OF THE SEASON WITH THE BEST RECORD IN THE NFC.
The Lions are going to kneel down the clock and secure their spot at the top of the division and at the top of the NFC.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM A SOGGY LAMBEAU!!!
Kickoff is right around the corner
It's wet. It's rainy. It's football in Lambeau in the fall. Buckle up because this one is going to be a good. Two teams at the top of the NFC, battling for supremacy in the division.
Star watch: Packers
Green Bay took one step back to take two steps forwards this offseason. They let their best running back over the last few years walk, and Aaron Jones went walking to one of their fiercest rivals, the Minnesota Vikings. The Packers brought in Josh Jacobs, who was the league’s top rusher not too long ago. He had a few subpar years with the Raiders, but he looks rejuvenated in Green Bay. He has 667 yards rushing with three TDs, but there are games where he doesn’t get as many carries as he should. In the two games he has had more than 20 rushes, he has gone for 151 yards and 127 yards. They need to get him involved early and often today against the Lions.
NFC Standings
Taking a look at the standings coming into Week 9, we see the Detroit Lions at the top of the NFC North and the entire conference. The Vikings were the top team in the NFC for a while, but back to back losses to the Lions and them the Rams have dropped them off cloud nine. The Packers are one of a handful of teams with two losses. They are joined by the Vikings, Commanders and Eagles, but if they win this game today they will most likely be at the top of the division and perhaps the entire conference.
Star watch: Lions
The Lions have weapons all across the board, but their biggest weapon might be their one two punch they have in the backfield. David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs are the best thunder and lightening RB combo in the league. They get an even number of handoffs, but Gibbs has shown how explosive he can be over the last couple of games. Gibbs has 591 yards and 6 TDs on 93 carries. Montgomery has 415 yards and 7 TDs on 92 carries. One of the best parts about this running back duo is they can catch the ball too. Jared Goff implements them plenty in their offense that looks to be hitting stride over the last four weeks.
Season recap: Detroit
The Lions knew that they would have a bulls eye on their backs for the entire season. After falling just short of the Super Bowl last year, Dan Campbell’s guys have gotten even better and rattled off six of their first seven games. Their only loss came to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, but since then they have been flawless. The defense was doing the dirty work early, but they have scored 30 points in their last four games and Jared Goff has been nearly perfect in those games. In October he threw 10 TDs and had just 13 incompletions.
Season recap: Green Bay
The Packers surprised a lot of people last year, in a season that wasn’t Jordan Love’s rookie season but could have been considered his rookie season. They went to the playoffs with a young group around their QB, and a stingy defense that kept Love and the Packers from falling too far behind in the early parts of the season. Green Bay knew that all eyes were going to be on the Lions this year, but so far they have been keeping pace with the Lions. They lost their season opener to the Eagles in Brazil, but bounced back winning six of their next seven. Jordan Love went down early in the season and was forced to miss a couple games but Malik Willis carried the load under their QB1 came back. The Packers are playing close games, but they are winning close games. Four of their six wins have come in one possession games, but they are right there with the Lions at the top of the NFC North, and if they win today they will be the top dogs in the division.
Love and Jacobs ready to go
This is being dubbed the Game of the Week, but there was some serious star power in jeopardy for the Packers coming into today. Jordan Love hurt his groin in last week’s win over the Jags, and didn’t practice until Thursday. He was listed as questionable for the game, but he has been given the green light, as has Josh Jacobs who has been battling an ankle injury. Jacobs played the entire game last week but didn’t suit up in practice until Thursday. They are both expected to start today, but we will keep on eye on them against the ferocious Lions defense.
Last game: Lions
The Lions essentially had a bye week last week against the Titans. One of the worst teams in the league went into the home of the Lions and got mauled from Ford Field. Surprisingly, the Titans kept it close for the first 15 minutes but Jared Goff’s three TD passes on just 15 passes and David Montgomery’s TD pass in the second quarter opened the game up and Lions wouldn’t take their foot off the gas from there on out. They won the game 52-14 and rested their starters for a big part of the second half with today’s game in mind.
Last game: Packers
The Packers went down to Jacksonville and played a desperate Jaguars team that was trying to turn their season around. Jordan Love, who would eventually watch the second half from the sidelines, had an efficient game but it was Josh Jacobs who did the heavy lifting for the Packers. He scored the games’ opening touchdown. The Jags would keep it close, but Malik Willis who came into the game for the injured Love, threw an early fourth quarter TD to Tucker Kraft to give the Packers a 10 point lead. That two score lead would disappear as Trevor Lawrence threw a game tying TD pass to Evan Engram with under 2:00 to go. On the next possession Willis found Jayden Reed with a 51 yard bomb that put the Packers in field goal range and Brandon McManus won it with a 24 yard field goal as the time ran out.
We are live from Lambeau
Hello everyone and welcome to Green Bay where the Packers return home after finishing off a perfect October slate. They come into today’s massive matchup as one of the hottest teams in the league, but four of their six wins have come by a touchdown or less. Today, they will face their toughest test of the season as Detroit Lions come into to town riding a five game win streak, and so far they have looked like the most complete team in the NFC. They are coming off their biggest and easiest win of the season, after treating the Tennessee Titans apart at Ford Field last week. Today they take on a Packers team looking to jump them for the top spot in the division.
