The Los Angeles Rams care not a jot that Jimmy Garoppolo has a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policies on performance-enhancing substances, snapping him up for the 2024 season.

According to reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Rams have given him a one-year contract as Matthew Stafford’s backup in Los Angeles. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Just last year, Garoppolo signed a three-year, $72.75 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, but he only appeared in seven games, with six starts, winning three of them. During his time at Allegiant Stadium he completed 65.1 percent of his throws for 1,205 yards with seven touchdowns and nine interceptions.

The value of a good backup cannot be understated, with starting quarterbacks falling injured through the long and gruelling NFL season. The Rams have already had several high draft picks act as backup QB in the last two seasons, with Baker Mayfield in 2022, Carson Wentz in 2023, and now that continues with Jimmy G.

This is a developing story and further details will be forthcoming as they become available.
