Mahomes moves past Marino: this is the Chiefs QB’s new NFL record
In the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 1 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers, Patrick Mahomes added to his long list of NFL achievements.

Patrick Mahomes is on a fast track to becoming one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history - and the Kansas City Chiefs star just took another giant leap forward. In a historic matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Mahomes threw his first touchdown of the season, and with it, etched his name into the record books once again.
Mahomes surpasses Marino mark
Just 12 days shy of his 30th birthday, Mahomes became the quarterback with the most touchdown passes before turning 30. The Texas Tech alum entered the game tied with Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino at 245 career touchdown passes. He broke the tie in the fourth quarter with a strike to his longtime favorite target, Travis Kelce.
Kelce ran a deep route and capitalized on a defensive miscue to haul in the pass at the 25-yard line. From there, he turned on the jets and raced into the end zone, marking his 55th career touchdown reception from Mahomes. The score cut Los Angeles’ lead to 20-18, but the Chiefs failed to convert the two-point attempt that would have tied the game.

The Chargers finally ran out 27-21 winners in Brazil, Los Angeles QB Justin Herbert leading his team to Week 1 victory with three touchdown passes. It is only the second time since 2014 that Kansas City has kicked off the NFL season with defeat.
How Mahomes has distributed his TD passes
Mahomes has now thrown 246 touchdown passes in regular-season play, connecting with 33 different receivers. Kelce, the quarterback’s go-to guy, unsurprisingly leads the pack. Tyreek Hill ranks second with 41 touchdown receptions, and there’s a steep drop-off after that. Mecole Hardman sits in third with 15, followed by Demarcus Robinson and Jerick McKinnon, each with 14.
