Update:

For a brief moment, Maxx Crosby believed his time with the Las Vegas Raiders was over. A blockbuster deal that would have sent the star defensive end to the Baltimore Ravens, reportedly in exchange for two first-round picks, was all but complete. Crosby had traveled, undergone medical testing, and was already processing what came next.

Then, suddenly, it was over.

“I was livid and confused,” Crosby said on his podcast, describing the moment he learned Baltimore had backed out of the trade.

Inside Maxx Crosby’s wild trade saga

Crosby revealed that the situation unfolded quickly and left him trying to process a major life change in real time. After seven seasons in Las Vegas, the idea of a fresh start with a contender brought a mix of shock and excitement. But once he arrived for his physical, things began to feel off.

He expected to meet with Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta early in the process. Instead, hours passed without contact.

“I thought I was going to see him when I first got there… I didn’t see him for five hours,” Crosby said.

That uncertainty only grew as the day went on. Late in the visit, Crosby was informed that team doctors had concerns about his knee, an issue tied to offseason surgery to repair a torn meniscus. That’s when the situation turned from confusing to unsettling.

“At that moment, I was scared,” Crosby said.

“I could just tell the energy was a little bit off, the GM was just standing in the hall to the right and that was the first I had seen him," Crosby said when he finally saw DeCosta. “I dapped him up and he had like a blank face.”

Despite initial reassurances that the deal could still go through, the final decision came quickly. Within minutes of hearing optimism from team staff, Crosby was told the trade had been called off.

Crosby described the aftermath as chaotic. After the deal fell through, he immediately arranged to leave and returned to Las Vegas shortly after. Less than 24 hours later, he was back at the Raiders’ facility, the same place he had just believed he was leaving for good.

Meanwhile, the Ravens quickly pivoted, signing pass rusher Trey Hendrickson instead.

“I was thinking in my head, ‘what the f**k?’”

“I am where I’m supposed to be”

Despite the emotional rollercoaster, Crosby made it clear he has embraced staying in Las Vegas.

“I am where I’m supposed to be,” he said. “I’m meant to be a Raider.”

The 28-year-old, five-time Pro Bowl selection, is expected to be ready for training camp as he continues recovering from knee surgery. Now, instead of starting over elsewhere, Crosby returns as the centerpiece of the Raiders’ defense with added motivation from a trade saga he won’t soon forget.
