Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders touchdown in Madrid
Both teams will play in the inaugural international game in Madrid this Sunday at the iconic Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
The Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders have both touchdowned in Madrid, where they arrived with plenty of time to overcome jet lag and prepare in the best possible way for their historic game on Sunday, the first NFL regular season game on Spanish soil.
The team from Florida, were the early arrivals and landed at Barajas Airport before dawn and headed straight to their hotel for a quiet day of settling in. Some players even took a stroll through the streets of the capital and posed for photos on Calle Serrano with promotional materials for the match, much to the astonishment of onlookers, who were amazed by the sheer size of these “beasts.” The D.C. team arrived after lunchtime and headed to their hotel base.
Both teams begin training in the Spanish capital this Wednesday. The Dolphins, who despite their 3-7 record arrive with high morale after defeating the Buffalo Bills, will be based at the Metropolitano Stadium, which is home to local LaLiga side Atletico Madrid. The team’s key players, such as head coach Mike McDaniel and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, will also hold their press conferences there.
The Commanders, meanwhile, also arrived with a 3-7 record after five consecutive losses and their base of operations will be in Valdebebas, at Real Madrid’s training complex.
Jayden Daniels, who was expected to be the star of the game, will not be seen there. Last year’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, thanks to leading his team to the conference final, did not travel with the team to Spain to continue recovering from the left elbow injury he suffered 10 days ago.
