The reason Micah Parsons wants to leave Dallas
The Penn State product explained that he sought a long-term extension with Dallas since finishing his third NFL season. However, team management told him the timing wasn’t right.
At the end of last season, Parsons asked his agent, David Mulugheta, to open talks with the Cowboys, but Mulugheta advised waiting for other players to finalize their deals first, since Parsons’ contract value would only rise. Unfortunately, Dallas’ front office never responded.
Parsons also revealed that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke to him in March about an extension — but those were only preliminary conversations, not actual negotiations. The situation soured when Parsons tried to get his agent involved, but the team claimed the deal was already set. Mulugheta pushed back, saying that wasn’t true, after which Dallas stopped communicating altogether. Since then, neither the Jones family nor the Cowboys have reached out to Parsons or his agent.
Parsons’ legacy with the Cowboys
Parsons’ trade now seems inevitable after four standout seasons in Dallas. The Penn State alum was selected 12th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft and has since established himself as one of the league’s premier defenders.
A four-time Pro Bowl selection, Parsons has appeared in 63 regular-season games over four years, racking up 256 tackles and 52.5 sacks. It’s also worth noting he was named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021.
