Micah Parsons update: “No deal in sight” for Cowboys linebacker
The standoff between Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons continues as tensions grow ahead of the regular season.

We’re just a little over three weeks out from the Dallas Cowboys’ regular season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. That game - against a division rival and reigning Super Bowl team - was always going to be difficult for Dallas.
But it’ll be even harder without the Cowboys’ best defender, All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons.
"He's earned to be paid as one of the highest defenders in the NFL."

What will happen with Micah Parsons and the Cowboys?
Micah Parsons’ contract dispute with the Dallas Cowboys has reached a critical point just weeks before the 2025 NFL season kicks off. Despite being one of the league’s most dominant defensive players and a cornerstone of the Cowboys’ roster, Parsons has not received the long-term extension he’s seeking. Tensions peaked when he formally requested a trade during training camp.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there is currently “no deal in sight,” and communication between the two sides has stalled, leading to serious questions about Parsons’ future in Dallas and the long-term direction of the Cowboys organization.
“If there’s no deal in sight what’s going to happen? Is Micah going to play in the opener? We’ve already heard Jerry Jones wonder about whether Micah would be out there on opening day,” Schefter wrote.
“What would be the Cowboys’ plan here? Well, if obviously they can’t get a long-term deal done, and the two sides are not even talking about it right now, then they can always have Micah this year if he plays,” he continued. “And they have the franchise tag after this year. They’d have the franchise tag the next year. They have his rights, essentially, for three years. At some point in time you have to wonder if they would look to trade him.”
As Schefter pointed out, the Cowboys technically hold contractual leverage through the franchise tag, but the situation has created internal friction. Parsons remains with the team but is limited in practice, citing back tightness. As of now, his future in Dallas remains uncertain, and the standoff continues to cast a shadow over the team’s 2025 season.
