Must see games in Week 2 of the NFL: Battler of up and coming QBs, NFC North showdown, Super Bowl rematch

It’s hard to say which game is biggest this weekend. It’s only Week 2, but we have a month watering slate of games highlighted by a Super Bowl rematch.

Update:

Week one gave us fireworks, drama, upsets and maybe the Game of the Year in the Ravens vs. Bills Sunday night instant classic. Week 2 won’t disappoint either. We start strong on Thursday night with a couple of young QBs who could be going head to head in the playoffs for the next decade. It’s an NFC North showdown and a homecoming in Detroit. We have a Super Bowl rematch in Kansas City with the Chiefs needing a win to avoid a 0-2 start and a Sunday Night contest between two young QBs who went head to head in the College Football title game only two years ago.

Washington Commanders @ Green Bay Packers, Thursday 8:15 p.m. ET

The Green Bay Packers made a big statement on Sunday afternoon when they stomped the Detroit Lions from Lambeau Field. Jordan Love looked like a seasoned vet that is ready to make the jump from starter to star and we got our first look at Micah Parsons in Green and Gold. Green Bay dominated every facet of the game against the Lions and now they have to quickly shift focus to another playoff team from last year. Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders had a comfortable win over the New York Giants from the Meadowlands last weekend. This one isn’t going to be as cozy. Daniels and the Commanders know what it’s like to face up against Micah Parsons who played them twice last year, but this Packers team looked like one of the best in the league after the first 60 minutes of the season. This could be an early preview of a potential playoff game later in the year.

Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions, Sunday 1 p.m. ET

Ben Johnson returns to a place he called home for the last six years. The former offensive coordinator who turned the Lions into a scoring juggernaut one the last few seasons is the head ball coach in Chicago, and if Sunday night showed him anything, it’s that being a head coach in the NFL isn’t a breeze. The Bears started their game in fantastic fashion taking an early lead and dominating the Minnesota Vikings for the first three quarters of the game. They would collapse in the fourth quarter and all of the sudden a cloud of doubt dampened the debut of the new coach in the Windy City. The Lions laid a dud in Green Bay in Week 1, and a lot of people pointed to the fact that Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn are no longer on the sidelines. Detroit got dominated in every facet of the game, and now it’s time to pick themselves up and brush themselves off.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET

As if a Week 2 Super Bowl rematch wasn’t enough to sell you, let’s go a little deeper. The Kansas City Chiefs return back to the motherland after a trip to Sao Paulo and they return facing a lot of damning questions. People are already stating to shut the Super Bowl window of the NFL’s most current dynasty following their loss to the LA Chargers. They won’t have Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy has been ruled day-to-day after missing most of the debut game last Friday. The Chiefs still have Patrick Mahomes and that should be enough to make KC fans believe in revenge against the team that spanked them back in February. The Eagles didn’t look great in their debut against the Cowboys. The defense was suspect for the first two quarters, Jalen Hurts looked pedestrian against a Micah Parsons-less defense and Saquon Barkley looked mortal for the most part. The stakes may not be the same as their last game, but both teams will have something to prove on Sunday afternoon.

Atalanta Falcons @ Minnesota Vikings, Sunday 8:20 p.m. ET

What a debut it was for J.J. McCarthy. The first year, non rookie QB, didn’t look great through the first few quarters, but a pick six in the third quarter seemed to wake him up and then history awaited the Vikes gunslinger. He became the first QB to account for three TDs in the fourth quarter of a debut game as he led Minnesota to a division win on the road. He made his teammates and Vikings fans believers in his first game, but now it’s time to prove the first week wasn’t a fluke. He will have to do it against a familiar foe. Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. was the Washington Huskies QB when they met J.J. McCarty and the Michigan Wolverines in the College Football Playoff National Championship. Penix and the Falcons were a missed fourth quarter field goal away from tying the Bucs in Week 1. McCarty got the best of Penix Jr. in the last matchup between these two. Sunday night Penix Jr. will get his chance for revenge.
