MVP and Super Bowl: Can Matthew Stafford join elite group with rare double?
The 37-year-old quarterback has gained his first All-Pro first team selection, strengthening his claim to be NFL MVP.

Ahead of the 2025 season the Los Angeles Rams gave Matthew Stafford permission to speak to other teams. Now, the Rams must be very relieved that he decided to stay in LA.
On Saturday Matthew Stafford was named to the All-Pro first team for the first time in his career. The 37-year-old quarterback finished the regular season with a career-high 109.2 passer rating and a franchise-record 46 touchdowns.
An early clue in the NFL’s MVP race was revealed Saturday morning, when Rams QB Matthew Stafford was named first-team All-Pro by a panel of media voters.

Stafford and the Rams start their playoff journey with a trip to the Carolina Panthers on Saturday, looking to build on a run of four wins in their last five games. His All-Pro selection makes Stafford the favorite for the NFL Most Valuable Player award and he could be eyeing up a very rare double.
How many players have won the Super Bowl and NFL MVP?
Over the course of NFL history, it is surprisingly uncommon that the regular season MVP goes on to win the Super Bowl. Once the playoffs begin, the regular season form is forgotten and new figures come to the fore.
In fact, if Stafford were to win the NFL MVP and lead the Rams to a Super Bowl triumph, he would become just the 12th player to achieve that incredible double.
The 11-name list of MVP-Super Bowl winners is: Bart Starr (1966), Terry Bradshaw (1978), Mark Moseley (1982), Lawrence Taylor (1986), Joe Montana (1989), Emmitt Smith (1993), Steve Young (1994), Brett Favre (1996), Terrell Davis (1998), Kurt Warner (1999) and Patrick Mahomes (2022).
The most recent addition to that list was Patrick Mahomes, who was crowned MVP before taking the Chiefs to Super Bowl LVII. Before that, there had been a trend of MVP winners losing in the Super Bowl, including Tom Brady (2007, 2017), Peyton Manning (2009, 2013) and Matt Ryan (2016).
