SUPER BOWL 2023

MVP Mahomes goes to Disneyland

Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes celebrated winning the Lombardi Trophy by taking his family to Disneyland, a tradition for Super Bowl MVPs.

“You just won the Super Bowl, what are you gonna do next?”

“I’m going to Disney World!”

You’ve heard that famous answer before even if the question varies slightly, but with the Super Bowl MVPs, it’s actually something they do! It’s been a tradition since the 80s with MVPs bringing other teammates or family members to one of the amusement parks, Disney World in Orlando or Disneyland in California.

This year, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes continued the tradition, telling reporters after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, “I’m going to Disneyland!”. Mahomes brought his wife and children with him to visit Disney this year. While there, Mahomes rode on a Kansas City Chiefs float in a celebratory parade with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

Even before Mahomes started playing as quarterback at Texas Tech University, back in 2013, he was dreaming about this moment…

“It’s amazing to be at Disney Land. It’s a dream you have as a little kid,” said Mahomes. “And to be here with so many fans and celebrating on the parade, it was amazing and I’m glad to be here.”

Mahomes experienced this amazement for the first time in 2020 when he and the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV. That year, he won Super Bowl MVP for the first time and told reporters he was going to Disney World, and that he did. This most recent visit will surely not be his last.
