A Super Bowl-winning head coach
McCarthy has been out of action since his dismissal from the Cowboys at the end of the 2024 season. He led Dallas for four years from 2020, and previously spent 13 seasons at the helm of the Green Bay Packers, from 2006 to 2018.
The 62-year-old coach posted a 49-35 record during his time in Dallas, finishing his final campaign at 7-10 and missing the postseason.
Across his 18 years as an NFL head coach, McCarthy has made 12 playoff appearances, highlighted by a victory in Super Bowl XLV with the Packers. Should he be hired, he would become the Steelers’ first offensively minded head coach of the modern era.
McCarthy is a Pittsburgh native and worked with Steelers general manager Omar Khan during their time together in New Orleans back in 2000. The coach has also reportedly spoken with the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants about their vacancies.
Who else is in the running for the Steelers job?
Other candidates linked to the Steelers’ head‑coaching search include Brian Flores, Nathan Scheelhaase, and Jesse Minter.
