New Orleans Saints 34 vs 42 Arizona Cardinals: summary stats and highlights | NFL Week 7

Update:
The Arizona Cardinals won their first game at home in over a calendar year when they defeated the New Orleans Saints 42-34 on Thursday Night Football.

Arizona won their first game at State Farm Stadium in a year on Thursday night when they took down the New Orleans Saints. Andy Dalton there two pick sixes at the end of the first half turn the tides in the Cardinals 42-34 victory.

Dalton's night of ups and downs

Both teams came in struggling, in desperate need of a win and the Saints got off to a flying start despite being riddled with injuries on the offensive end. With no Michael Thomas or Jarvis Landry Dalton hit Rashid Shaheed on a 53 yard TD pass to start the night off in fashion for the boys in black and gold.

They were on the verge of extending that lead as Dalton drove down the field, but was picked off in the end zone by Antonio Hamilton. The Cardinals would respond with a field goal, their fifth straight with out a touchdown dating back to Week 6 to make it 7-6.

Despite the red zone turnover, Dalton and the Saints responded with a Taysom Hill 6 yard catch and run to extend the lead to 14-6 as the Cardinals offense continued to struggle to find the end zone.

Cardinals kick TD drought

Those struggles would be short lived as Arizona built a 13 play drive that was finished off when Keaontay Ingram scored the first touchdown of his career on a two yard run just before the Two Minute Warning.

Kyler Murray and the Cards offense looked much improved on Thursday night with Deandre Hopkins back on the field after serving a six game suspension for failing a performance enhancing drug test. Hopkins had 10 catches for 103 yards, but it was the defense that made the difference in the desert.

Defense comes up big to end 1st half

Two pick sixes, the first from Marco Wilson and the second from Isaiah Simmons, just seconds apart turned the tides of the game at the end of the first half. Arizona went up 28-14 and didn’t look back.

A Saints field goal shortly after half closed the gap to 28-17, but Arizona would stretch the lead to a three possession game at the end of the third quarter when Murray found Greg Dortch for a 5 yard touchdown.

New Orleans and Dalton wouldn’t go away. A quick five play drive ended with a Jawan Johnson 17 yard catch and run for a touchdown to make it 35-24 with over ten minutes to go in the fourth.

Home losing streak is snapped

The Cardinals wouldn’t panic. Instead, they constructed a five minute touchdown drive polished off by Eno Benjamin’s five yard touchdown run to close the door on the Saints comeback chances.

Dalton, who threw for 361 yards and four touchdowns along with his three interceptions, would get one final touchdown to bring the score to 42-31, but by that time the damage had been done.

Murray and the Cardinal were able to hold off the late charge and snap their two game losing streak and secure their first win at State Farm Stadium in 361 days.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM ARIZONA!!!

The New Orleans Saints will get the ball first after the Cardinals won the toss and differd.

as.com

The Retrun of the Red Rocket

Andy Dalton hasn’t been the reason for the Saints recent struggles. The offense has been rolling, but that hasn’t turned into wins for New Orleans. The two losses over the last three weeks have come by a combined total of  seven points. Dalton comes into tonight looking to level his record as the Saints starter tonight in Arizona.

as.com

Tonight's odds

According to Bet365.com the New Orleans Sainst are 2.5 points underdogs on the road, and the Over/Under is 43.5. I'm taking the Cardinals in this game, I think they are desperate for a win, and being at home they come up with a much needed victory to end the two game losing skid.

as.com

TDs on Thursday nights

In the last two weeks there has been just one touchdown scored on Thursday Night Football. It came last week on the Chicago Bears opening drive of the second half. Tonight should have quite a few touchdowns in store, but with recent Thursday Night history you can’t be so sure. Is the under the call tonight from State Farm Stadium?

as.com

Anderson's selfie from new home

Robbie Anderson butted heads with former coach Steve Wilks on the side line last Sunday's Carolina vs. Los Angeles game. Shortly after the Panthers lost to the Rams, Anderson’s time in Carolina came to an end. He debuts tonight, and the Cardinals say they have a 10-15 play package in which he will be incorporated.

as.com

Saints Injuries

While the Jameis situation remains unclear, one thing that is clear is Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry will not be available tonight. So too will tight end Adam Trautman, which will put a dent in the Saints passing game. Alvin Kamara and Taysom Hill should be heavily featured in tonight’s game plan with out three pass catching weapons.

as.com

The clock might be starting to tick for Kliff Kingsbury, who came into this season on a short leash after multiple late season collapses over the last couple years. You can’t have a late season collapse if you have been terrible all season.

as.com

Jamies Winston has been batting a back injury, but dressed last week. He didn’t play a snap against the Bengals which brings up some serious questions about his status as the Saints starting quarterback. The offense has flourished under Andy Dalton, which will make Dennis Allen’s choice even tougher.

as.com

Tyrann Mathieu knows this place well. He played in Arizona from 2013 to 2017, and returns tonight wearing the black and gold. He and tonight's halftime correspondent and legendary saftey RIchard Sherman.

as.com

Cardinals coimng in

The Cardinals have yet to win at home this season. Think about that, last year they were undefeated through six games. Arizona was considered a Super Bowl favorite and Kyler Murray was a serious candidate for MVP. This year, that couldn’t be farther from the case. The fans are expecting more from their QB1, and tonight he has to impress them for the first time this season.

as.com

Cardinals last week

The Arizona offense came to a stand still yet again. Kyler Murray got a historic contract after months of stand off negotiations, but the pay back is yet to show itself six games into the season. The Cardinals didn’t manage to get into the end zone against a Seahawks team that gave up 39 points against the Saints a week before. Let’s be fair, Murray has not got much help from his offensive line. He got sacked six times in a game in which he passed for 171 yards and threw an interception and coughed up the deciding fumble. Arizona has scored more that 17 points in just one of their last four games. If things don’t change on the offensive end the Cardinals could be facing their third straight loss.

as.com

Saints last game

In Andy Dalton’s third start as the Saints QB, the offense put up 26 points, but it wasn’t enough to topple the defending AFC Champions. The Saints rushed for 228 yards and never trailed until the last two minutes of the game when Joe Burrow tossed a 60 yard bomb to Ja’Marr Chase to take a 30-26 lead right after the Two Minute Warning. Dalton is now 1-2 since taking the QB1 spot after Jameis Winston was injured in Week 2.

as.com

We are live from State Farm Stadium!

Hello everyone and welcome to Arizona! With how tight things are from top to bottom in the NFL a 2-4 record does not mean the end of the world, but neither of these two teams have passed the eye test so far this. The Cardinal are on a two game losing streak and the Saints continue to try to find their identity after weeks of being plagued by injuries on the offensive end.

as.com

Saints vs. Cardinals

Two struggling teams coming off of Week 6 losses look to bounce back on tonight from Stat Farm Stadium.
