New York Jets & Aaron Rodgers have injury scare. What exactly happened?

The first rule of training camp is “don’t touch the QB.” Unfortunately, one Jets player forgot that over the weekend and the franchise almost lost its star.

The New York Jets made a major splash this offseason with the acquisition of four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, but the star quarterback was almost hurt in training and as one can imagine that could have put paid to the Jets’ ambitions before they even started their campaign.

Jets & Aaron Rodgers have an injury scare

According to recent reports, the New York Jets and their new quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, narrowly avoided what could have been a major problem this weekend. During a non-padded workout, Rodgers found himself on the receiving end of a rush by Jermaine Johnson II that resulted in the pair making contact, which in turn left the signal caller’s pinky toe in a bad way. Now, while you might be rolling your eyes at what could appear to be unnecessary drama over nothing, the fact remains that a broken toe would be more than enough to put an end to a season before it even started.

Luckily, Rodgers did not suffer any significant damage, and although he was forced to sit out several plays following the collision, it is understood that he’s good to go after a series of evaluations. Of course, it was a telling reminder of how quickly one’s fortunes can change in the world of sports. Indeed, that’s something that Jets head coach Robert Saleh spoke to as he doubled down on the importance of never ever touching the quarterback. “We do it all the time,” Saleh said of reminding his pass-rushers to never touch the QB in practice. “Stay off the quarterback. Respect the quarterback. Every player knows how important those quarterbacks are, but stay up, stay off them. It goes without saying, but you’re always going to try to make it a point of emphasis.”

Aaron Rodgers needs to watch himself

Truth be told, as much as it would be a massive blow to lose Rodgers to injury, it would be even worse for him individually. At 39 years old, it’s safe to say that injury is the last thing that the former Green Bay Packers star needs. There was cause for concern in May when he suffered a calf strain, however, that is not on the same level as to what could have been had he fractured a toe. Ultimately, Rodgers seems to be just fine as evidenced by the fact that he was able to complete the practice session. Nonetheless, it’s a timely reminder for the Jets and their star that it’s better to be safe than sorry.
