After Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered a heart attack during Week 17′s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the game was canceled by the league, leaving them with a bit of a problem.

The Kansas City Chiefs remained as the number one seed in the American Conference and with this, they won their right to rest in the first round of the NFL Playoffs, however, the Bills had one less game played due to the Week 17 matchup being ruled a no contest, so the NFL decided to choose a neutral venue in case both teams reach the final of the American Conference.

On Thursday, the NFL announced the potential matchup will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

That is the only scenario in which the final of the American Conference would be played in a neutral venue, since the victory of the Chiefs against the Raiders the last week, and that of Buffalo against the Patriots.

Chiefs-Bills history

The Chiefs and Bills have met in the Playoffs in the last two years. Last year, Mahomes tied the game after Josh Allen put Buffalo ahead 36-33 with 13 seconds left, and Kansas City prevailed in overtime with a pass to the end zone from Mahomes to Travis Kelce.

A year earlier, the Chiefs defeated the Bills 38-24 and won their ticket to the Super Bowl.
