NFL Awards finalists 2023: MVP, Best Defensive Player, Best Offensive player, Rookie of the year...
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is the only non-quarterback in contention for the MVP award. He, Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott feature in two categories.
The finalists for the Associated Press 2023 NFL awards, including the five candidates for MVP, were announced on Thursday. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson starts out as the big favorite to be named the MVP - he picked up the award in 2019 with 100% of the votes. Jackson, along with Niners running back Christian McCaffrey and Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott are also in the running for the Offensive Player of the Year award.
The winners will be announced at the NFL Honors ceremony at Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas on 8 February as a prelude to Super Bowl LVIII which takes place three days later in the same city. The ceremony will be aired live on CBS and NFL Network and stream on Paramount+ and NFL+.

This was the second year that finalists were determined via AP’s weighted voting system. Votes are cast before the playoffs by a nationwide panel of 50 sports journalists who regularly cover the league. Writers elect their top five candidates for the MVP award and a top three for the remaining categories ordered in a points-based system (1st: 10 points, 2nd: 5 points, 3rd: 3 points, 4th: 2 points and 5th: 1 point).
