Update:

A month on from the announcement that Bad Bunny will be the performer at the Super Bowl LX halftime show, discussion around the decision continues.

The Puerto Rican star is undoubtedly one of the biggest artists in the world and has racked up three Grammy award wins and ten total nominations. Nevertheless the decision to name a Spanish-language singer as the Super Bowl performer has been controversial.

Speaking on Tuesday NFL commissioner Roger Goodell defended the decision. “He’s one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world.”

“That’s what we try to achieve,” Goodell continued. “It’s carefully thought through. I don’t think we’re ever selected an artist without some blowback or criticism.”

However in this instance much of the blowback has come from high up, with President Donald Trump wading into the conversation. During a recent appearance on Newsmax, Trump called on Bad Bunny to be removed and claimed that he had not heard of the Puerto Rican star, the most-streamed artist on the planet.

Trump said: “I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it -- it’s, like, crazy. They blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

The Super Bowl halftime show is one of the big stages in the world of entertainment, drawing a huge audience in the United States and overseas. Bad Bunny may not be a universally popular choice, but he certainly fits the bill for the biggest show on earth.
