Update:

The NFL could be about to get even more glamorous with reports suggesting boxing icon Floyd Mayweather Jr is looking to become a part owner of one of the league’s most successful franchises.

Mayweather’s bid for the New York Giants

According to TMZ Sports, Mayweather and business partner Meyer Orbach, a prominent real estate magnate, are lining up an offer for a 10% stake in the New York Giants, along with another wealthy investor.

The report claims the 47-year-old and his associates are will to make an initial bid of $700 million to get on board, and that the retired boxer has already moved $200 million into an escrow account.

Orbach, who owns 17% of the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves, told TMZ he and his partner are “always looking at different opportunities, including ownership of sports teams” but the he “couldn’t comment further”.

Earlier in February, the Giants confirmed the Mara and Tisch families, the current owners, were exploring the potential sale of a “minority, non-controlling stake”. The franchise is valued by Forbes at an estimated $7.5 billion dollars.

Mayweather’s winning mentality, Giants' losing run

Mayweather would, of course, bring a winning track record to New York having famously retired in 2007 with a 50-0 undefeated record in the ring.

The Giants have won four Super Bowls, making them the joint fifth most successful team in NFL history. However, they have missed out on the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, as well as seven of the last eight, and finished 2024 with a dismal 3-14 record.
