News of the Panthers firing their head coach Matt Rhule could bring other teams to Carolina’s door to see if players would be made available for acquisition ahead of the Nov. 1 trade deadline.

Panthers owner David Pepper sacked Rhule after a lackluster 11-27 record set in a little over two seasons and installed defensive pass game coordinator Steve Wilks in his place as interim head coach.

The firing of Rhule signals a rebuild, so it is highly possible that Carolina’s players would be made available if the price is right. Here are some players that might go on the trading block.

Christian McCaffrey, running back

The Panthers are facing major quarterback problems, with Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold sustaining ankle injuries. The star running back could be the bargaining chip the team needs to be able to acquire a new signal-caller or other players they might want to rebuild the franchise. McCaffrey plays at the top level when healthy; and at 26 years old, his value is still high, though injuries would still be a consideration.

D.J. Moore, wide receiver

Moore could be a great asset for negotiation if the Panthers were ready to give him up, although as his contract has just been extended, that may not be likely. He has been a reliable presence in the team, and his three-year, $61.9 million deal is not outrageous, especially compared with agreements signed by other wideouts in the offseason.

Derrick Brown, defensive tackle

The 24-year-old can draw a lot of suitors as a young player who has grown into one of the better defensive tackles in the league. The seventh overall pick in the 2020 draft is considered one of the best run defenders in the NFL. It would take a generous offer to lure him away, as he is still on his rookie agreement.

Robbie Anderson, wide receiver

Anderson is one the league’s top deep threats, and has one year and $12 million left on his contract after this season. He has had some difficulties since 2020 when he recorded a career-high 95 catches for 1,096 yards, but his lower numbers could be attributed mainly to problems with the quarterback.

Brian Burns, defensive end

Burns is one of the best young edge rushers in the league, and at 24 years old, a prospective team could make him a cornerstone they could grow with over the next few years. He was named to the Pro Bowl last season, and has already tallied 29.5 career sacks in 53 games. He is also looking for a new deal as his rookie agreement- with one year and $16 million remaining, is nearing its end.
