NFL Week 10 winners and losers: Tua and the Dolphins, McCarthy and the choking Cowboys...

If you missed the Vikings and Bills game, you’re going to want to check the highlights. They delivered the game of the year without question, but more on that later. It was a wild Sunday with plenty to talk about over your morning coffee at work on Monday. Let’s start by looking at the biggest winners and losers from Week 10 in the NFL.

Week 10 winner: Stefon Diggs’ and Justin Jefferson’s ridiculous catches

That Bills vs Vikings game was one of the most entertaining we’ve seen all season. There were several moments where it was clear the game was over and the Vikings OR Bills won. That’s the thing. There were times when you were sure the Bills won it and there were times when you were sure the Vikings did. In the end, neither did and the game was sent into overtime, when the Vikings finally came away with the 33-30 victory in overtime.

This game was entertaining for several reasons, but Stefon Diggs’ and Justin Jefferson’s insane catches provided a lot of the reason. The first of the ridiculous catches came from Diggs in the third quarter when he reached into the air to snag a one-handed bullet from Josh Allen, catching it from the tip and maintaining control in an impossible catch.

Then, in the fourth quarter, Jefferson gave Diggs a run for his money, making an even more ridiculous catch! On fourth and 18, Cousins passed it high in the air and Jefferson snagged it, with one hand, right out of the hands of Bills defender Cam Lewis, who by the way, had TWO hands on the ball, to keep the drive alive and the Vikings’ hopes. It was not only an incredible catch, but it also came at a crucial time for the Vikings and kept them in the game, led them into overtime and the eventual win. Ridiculous.

Week 10 loser: Russell Wilson and the Broncos offense

The Broncos’ offense continues to be a problem. In their 17-10 loss to the Titans, Russell Wilson completed just 50% of his 42 passes, averaging 6.8 yards per attempt, and had two fumbles and an interception. They blew a 10-point lead and couldn’t get anything going offensively, besides just one touchdown by Jaylen Virgil in the first half. They blew several opportunities to get ahead again and failed to convert on third downs, making just 18% of third down attempts.

Week 10 winner: Tua Tagovailoa

Now that Tua Tagovailoa is not plagued by injuries, he’s proven why he should be in the running for MVP. This season, he has 2,265 passing yards, 18 touchdowns to just three interceptions, a 71% completion rate, and 9.1 yards per attempt. Against the Browns on Sunday, he had completions to eight different pass-catchers, proving he can make the plays regardless of who’s in the game. Five of those eight players had over 30 receiving yards and three made touchdowns.

Week 10 loser: Dallas Cowboys/Mike McCarthy

Everyone (well, almost everyone) was expecting the Cowboys to beat the Packers. They couldn’t get anything going offensively against the Lions. And yet, against the No. 3 defense in the league, the Packers managed to come back from a 14-point deficit and send the game into overtime and then win it with 31 points at Lambeau Field in Mike McCarthy’s first return since his firing four years ago. OUCH.

McCarthy came into the game with the game plan of taking risks, and that he did. It’s just that they didn’t exactly pay off. A fourth-down gamble immediately backfired and led to the Packers’ win. Dak Prescott threw two interceptions. Penalties cost them in overtime. And there were questionable play calls galore. In conclusion: this looked very much like a typical Cowboys playoff game where the keyword is choke.

Week 10 winner: Jeff Saturday

Colts’ new head coach Jeff Saturday tweeting that the Raiders “look horrible” from his couch a few weeks ago to then beat them on Sunday is the ultimate troll and I am loving it. The Colts have had a crazy season. They benched quarterback Matt Ryan three weeks ago and started backup Sam Ehlinger instead. A week later, they fired their OC Marcus Brady. A week later, they played one of the worst games we’ve seen in a long time, losing 26-3 to the Patriots. A week after that, they fired head coach Frank Reich and hired Jeff Saturday, who has never coached a day in his life beyond the high school level. While everyone was mocking the Colts for their terrible season and strange choice at interim head coach, Saturday just went ahead and led them to a 25-20 win over the Raiders, with Ryan back in at quarterback by the way.

Week 10 loser: Josh Allen

One of the best quarterbacks in the league is a loser this week, and sadly it’s not a new issue that brings him here. Josh Allen is ridiculously talented and athletic, but he’s got a big problem: he has terrible decision-making abilities. He has thrown four red-zone interceptions in the last two games, and it’s hard not to blame those losses on just that. Both the Bills’ losses to the Jets and the Vikings were by one score. He can have all the talent in the world, but if he keeps tossing the ball to the wrong team, the Bills aren’t going to make it very far.

Week 10 winner: Christian Watson

Packers’ rookie wide receiver Christian Watson needed this game. He finally got his redemption after six weeks of dropped passes and poor route-running and Aaron Rodgers being endlessly frustrated. Against the Cowboys, Watson and Rodgers found their groove. It started with a 58-yard touchdown in the second quarter to tie the game, followed by a second touchdown, and then a third. Watson became the first Packers wide receiver since 1978 to gain over 100 receiving yards and have three touchdowns. If Rodgers finally found his reliable guy, this could be a game changer for the desperate Packers.

Week 10 loser: Brady’s failed trickplay

LOL is all I can say to this. Although the Buccaneers won the game against the Seahawks in Germany, why on Earth did they think they should make Tom Brady a receiver, at any point? In the third quarter, they decided to run a wildcat formation, snapping the ball to Leonard Fournette while Brady went wide. It failed, with Fournette gaining just two yards. Then, incredibly, the Bucs decided to do it again. This time though, instead of running it, Fournette threw a jump ball over to Brady, who was covered by Seattle defender, 6′4″ Tariq Woolen. Brady made the most hilarious vertical jump attempt, slipped on the German soccer turf and fell right on his butt, and Woolen intercepted the pass. Then, to rub salt in the wound, Brady got a penalty for tripping Woolen on his tackle attempt. I repeat, LOL.

Somehow, the German commentary just makes it even funnier.

Week 10 winner: Justin Fields

The Bears may have lost, but Justin Fields is still a winner. Despite the fact that they are on a losing streak, Justin Fields has figured out his momentum and every week, he does something impressive. This week, it was two touchdowns, one a 67-yard touchdown in which he outran all of the Lions’ defenders and one in which he switched direction three times to avoid a sack and get into the end zone.

He ended the game with 147 rushing yards. He set a record with 178 last week and now, he’s the first player in NFL history to play a game with 100 rushing yards, two passing touchdowns, and two rushing touchdowns. He is not just playing good football, he’s literally setting records on a regular basis now. The Bears still need to work on a lot of things offensively and defensively, but at least it looks like they’ve finally found a reliable quarterback.
