NFL Week 4 winners and losers: Mahomes, Cooper Rush,Trevor Lawrence, Steelers...

The Cowboys have won three straight with their backup quarterback, Mahomes might be a creative genius, and more from Week 4 in the NFL.

The NFL is always entertaining to me, but I have to say Week 4 was something special. From watching Mahomes do his thing on the field to the Saints’ double doink in London, to seeing DK Metcalf ride the injury cart to a poop break, it truly was a week to remember. While we love to see an underdog win, it’s equally fun to watch the losers sometimes, isn’t it? Let’s recap the NFL’s biggest losers and biggest winners from Week 4.

NFL Week 4 Winners

Cooper Rush

The Cowboys backup quarterback came into a disaster of a situation, with an injury-riddled receiving core and offensive line and lots of pressure to fill the shoes of Dak Prescott. But he’s done that and then some. He is now 3-0 on the season and 4-0 on his career starts. Against the Commanders on Sunday, he threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns. He’s had four touchdowns in three games now, something Prescott didn’t manage to do in his one game against the Buccaneers. Rush has been extremely underrated, but since he’s started, he’s thrown for at least 200 yards each time and has yet to throw an interception. He’s taken the Cowboys’ grim outlook and put them back in the playoff hunt.

Patrick Mahomes

Mahomes proved once again why he is one of the most creative and unpredictable quarterbacks in the league, not to mention one of the most fun to watch.

This move right here is what puts Mahomes in MVP contention every single year. He outran a defender, dodged one with a full spin, and then looked like he was going to run it into the end zone, but instead, flicked the ball up for a perfect toss to RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire for the touchdown no one saw coming. The Chiefs scored 41 points on the supposedly dominant Buccaneers defense for a 41-31 win.

Josh McDaniels

McDaniels FINALLY got his head coaching win! This was his first win as head coach since 2010. The Raiders won 32-23 over the Denver Broncos with Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams having a big game. But for McDaniel, this was a big win, not only as his first since 2010, but also against the team that fired him.

Haason Reddick

The Eagles signed Reddick this offseason for $15 million a year and it would seem he was worth every penny. The Eagles defense in general has been unstoppable so far, and in their fourth win in as many weeks, Reddick had two sacks, including the one that sealed their victory over the Jaguars on Sunday. Jacksonville would have had a chance to tie the game after the Eagles offense failed to convert on fourth down, but Reddick stripped Jags QB Trevor Lawrence of the ball, allowing Philly to recover it as time ran out.

NFL Week 4 Losers

Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence had hands like a clock on Sunday. How does he eat with those hands? The butterfingers were out of hand. Okay, enough with the cheesy expressions my dad used to say to me when he threw me a football when I was 13. You get the point. Lawrence fumbled, a lot. It was a rainy day in Philly, sure. But FOUR fumbles? All of which resulted in turnovers? That is what we call a very bad day. Not only did he fumble it, but twice, there was seemingly no cause. He just…randomly dropped the ball without the Eagles defense having to do a thing.

Kenny Pickett

We can say that the Steelers in general are big losers this week, but poor Pickett did not get off to a great start. The Steelers subbed in Pickett for Mitchell Trubisky at halftime as they trailed the Jets 10-6 and what’d he do on his first pass in the NFL? He threw an interception.

Things started to look up for the rookie after that, as he ran for back-to-back touchdown drives, bringing the Steelers to the lead. But then it all went south again. Pickett threw another pick late in the fourth quarter, leading to the Jets scoring another touchdown and taking back the lead. On his next opportunity, he attempted a Hail Mary, but…you guessed it…it was intercepted. He has now started in the NFL with no touchdowns and three interceptions…against the Jets. Ouch.

Baker Mayfield

Was Baker Mayfield the better option over Sam Darnold? Well, at the moment the Panthers don’t have much choice as Darnold is still out with an injury. Mayfield hasn’t been having a great time this season, and Sunday’s loss against the Cardinals wasn’t any different. He had 197 yards on 36 attempts, threw two interceptions, fumbled, AND had five passes batted down at the line of scrimmage in the 26-16 defeat. Darnold or Mayfield? Neither option is great. The Panthers just may be finally thinking about making a move at quarterback.

John Harbaugh

Yet another fourth down gamble came back to bite Ravens coach John Harbaugh. In the last four minutes of the game, the Ravens and Bills were tied 20-20 and a field goal would have given Baltimore the lead. Instead, Harbaugh thought it best to go for it on fourth down. And a spectacular disaster occurred. Quarterback Lamar Jackson threw an interception

The Ravens have THE best kicker in the league. Justin Tucker would have made that field goal every day of the week. Lamar Jackson is an amazing quarterback, but the risk was not worth the lack of reward. Incredibly, things got worse after that. The Bills waltzed their way down the field without much trouble and were all set to kick a field goal. So the Ravens decided to try to allow them to get a touchdown instead, which would give them the chance to get the ball back and try to score again. Sadly for them, one player didn’t get the memo.

Odafe Owes tackled Devin Singletary at the 3-yard line, forcing Baltimore to take a timeout and the Bills were able to run the clock on them, get the field goal, and end the game with a victory.
