Update:

In 2021, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs led the league in interceptions with 11 total, which was also a franchise record for a single season. They had a different defense back then, led by defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, that dominated in several areas.

It’s 2025 now, and Dallas’ defense has been historically bad through four games, ranking dead last in yards allowed and among the league-worst in points allowed. And Diggs, along with the rest of Dallas’ corners for that matter, has logged no interceptions yet.

Benched twice in four games, Trevon Diggs sends Cowboys a message

“It’s surprising,” Diggs said of the secondary’s lack of picks. “It’s not like we don’t have talent. We got to be in position. And I feel like once again positioned to do it...but it’s just all about being in position to make the plays.”

Diggs has come off the bench in two of the team’s first four games - once as he eased back from last year’s knee injury and once as discipline for an off-field issue.

While Diggs accepted the punishment and is set to return to the starting lineup, he admitted he’s still adjusting to Matt Eberflus’ zone-heavy defense. Known as one of the league’s best man-to-man corners, Diggs has asked his new defensive coordinator to let him play more man coverage, though he acknowledged he’ll have to adapt regardless, saying, “I have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.”

With Dallas’ secondary still without an interception this season, the Cowboys’ defensive identity could hinge on whether Eberflus bends to Diggs’ strengths.
