Update:

Cam Ward should be the face of the NFL’s rookie class as the No. 1 overall pick, but the Tennessee Titans quarterback isn’t getting the spotlight usually reserved for a franchise savior. Despite coming off a Heisman-caliber season at Miami, Ward and the Titans have been virtually ignored.

Cam Ward: The NFL’s most disrespected No. 1 pick

After Ward’s standout season in Miami last year, the Heisman Trophy came down to him and dual-threat WR/CB Travis Hunter. Hunter ended up winning it by a margin, but that still doesn’t explain the lack of attention and hype Ward has gotten as the first overall pick in the draft this year.

While other rookies like Hunter and even third-stringer Shedeur Sanders dominate headlines, Ward has been forced into the background - left off primetime, skipped in standalone windows, and downplayed in national coverage. In fact, the Titans are one of just three teams (Saints and Browns) that doesn’t have a primetime game on the schedule.

Ward makes his debut this Sunday when the Titans open up the season against the Denver Broncos, when he may demand the media’s attention depending on how he performs. For Tennessee, that lack of respect might serve as extra fuel heading into a wide-open AFC South. If Ward lives up to the hype, the league won’t be able to overlook him for long.
