Not in 2018 or in 2025: The Philadelphia Eagles players reply with “massive no” to possible White House invite

Update:

The Philadelphia Eagles are still basking in the glory of their second Super Bowl victory, achieved against the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans on February 9. However, they won’t be doing any of said basking with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.

In keeping with tradition, the newest NFL championship winners have been invited to Washington D.C., although reports suggest the Eagles have no intention of taking up Trump’s offer, as also happened following their previous Super Bowl triumph in 2018.

An Eagles source has told The U.S. Sun that a “massive no” was the result of discussions between players and the front office with regard to a White House visit. Additionally, owner Jeff Lurie is known to be a huge critic of the current president and sidestepped questions about a hypothetical trip to Pennsylvania Avenue before the Super Bowl.

The reason the Eagles won’t be going to the White House

The Eagles have previous with Trump, and the ill-feeling is clearly still lingering.

After winning Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots, Philadelphia canceled their planned visit to the White House after players were subject to criticism by the president, who was unhappy some had chosen to protest against social injustices by kneeling or raising their fists during the national anthem.

“They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country,” Trump said in a statement.

A number of players refused to go to the White House, although a small contingent did make the trip, including Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles.

Donald Trump’s Eagles snub

In the build-up to this year’s Super Bowl, Trump snubbed the Eagles on two separate occasions.

First, he congratulated the Chiefs on reaching the showpiece game and also had praise for the Buffalo Bills, who lost to Kansas City in the NFC Championship Game. However, he chose not to make any comment on Philly’s AFC win over the Washington Commanders.

Additionally, he wrongly predicted Patrick Mahomes would lead the Chiefs to victory over the Eagles in New Orleans.
