Packers 40-40 Cowboys, overtime tie game, summary: score, stats, highlights | NFL Week 4
The highly anticipated game between Micah Parsons’ Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys did not disappoint, ending with an OT tie.
Packers @ Cowboys LIVE!
No one wins, no one loses in Parsons' return to Dallas
The Cowboys and Packers ended in a 40-40 tie in Micah Parsons’ much-hyped return to Dallas.
Overtime drama: Dallas kicked a 22-yard FG first, then Green Bay tied it with a 34-yarder as time expired under the new OT rules.
Jordan Love’s big day: Despite missing two starting linemen, he threw for 337 yards and 3 TDs, all to Romeo Doubs.
Parsons contained (mostly): Dallas double-teamed him much of the night, but he still logged 8 pressures and a key sack in OT.
Momentum shift: A questionable late-1st-half timeout by Matt LaFleur led to a sack-fumble and quick Cowboys TD before halftime.
Special teams woes: Green Bay had another blocked kick disaster, with Dallas returning a missed extra point for 2 points.
The Packers sit at 2-1-1 heading into their bye, while the Cowboys proved resilient without star WR CeeDee Lamb. Packers will have their bye week next week before facing the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6 at home on Sunday, October 12. The Cowboys will travel to New Jersey to face the New York Jets in Week 5 on Sunday, October 5.
Why the tie?
The Cowboys and Packers finished in a 40-40 tie after overtime because regular-season NFL rules only allow one 10-minute OT period. Both teams scored field goals on their lone possessions - Brandon Aubrey for Dallas and Brandon McManus for Green Bay - and with the clock running out, the game ended without a winner, marking the second-highest scoring tie in league history.
McManus tied the game to end it
The Packers damn near ruined their shot at a tie here as Love threw an incomplete pass that left one single second on the clock. In the end, they were able to send McManus out to tie the game and end it there. The second-highest scoring tie in NFL history at 40-40.

They then scored a TD of their own when Pickens made an incredible catch in double coverage, setting up the score that Prescott ran in himself. After that, James Houston forced a fumble on Jordan Love and recovered it, giving the ball to Dallas at the Packers' 15. Prescott immediately turned it into a score, throwing to Pickens in the end zone to give the Cowboys the lead.

Parsons takes the field...
Micah Parsons takes the field at AT&T Stadium as a Packer. It's WEIRD! Sounds like there are some cheers from the crowd for him.
Cowboys vs Packers INACTIVES
Green Bay Packers
Both teams will be missing key starters. Green Bay’s offensive line is severely depleted, with RT Zach Tom, OT Anthony Belton, and LG Aaron Banks all inactive due to injuries, leaving the Packers to rely on a makeshift line featuring backups with little or no NFL experience. Safety Javon Bullard is questionable but expected to play after a concussion.
Inactives vs Cowboys:

OT Anthony Belton
LG Aaron Banks
S Javon Bullard

DL Warren Brinson
Dallas Cowboys
On the Cowboys’ side, All-Pro WR CeeDee Lamb and rookie RG Tyler Cooper are out with high-ankle sprains, while several younger players are healthy scratches. The injury situation sets up a high-pressure matchup, particularly for the Packers’ patched-together offensive line facing a Dallas defense led by former Packer Micah Parsons.

Packers and Cowboys: Where they stand
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are off to a rough 1–2 start, losing in Week 1 to the Eagles, barely beating the Giants in Week 2, and getting thumped by the Bears in Week 3. Their defense has been porous, giving up a high number of explosive pass plays while opponents are averaging over 30 points per game. Injuries are stacking up - notably, CeeDee Lamb and Tyler Booker are sidelined - putting more pressure on Dak Prescott and the offense. Prescott has still shown flashes, especially on play-action and in completion percentage, but without his top weapons, consistency has been elusive. Coach Brian Schottenheimer and defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus are already making adjustments, simplifying defensive calls and tweaking personnel.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers have gotten off to a solid 2–1 start in 2025 under head coach Matt LaFleur. Their season opened with a convincing 27-13 win over the Detroit Lions, followed by another strong performance in a 27-18 victory over the Commanders. Their first loss came in a tight battle at Cleveland, 13-10. Micah Parsons made a statement in his debut for Green Bay, recording a sack and helping the defense hold the Lions to just 246 total yards. Offensively, Jordan Love and his receivers have had efficient outings, but the Packers have still been vulnerable to big passing plays. Overall, it’s been a promising start, though not without flaws.
The return of Parsons
We can't talk about this game without talking about Micah Parsons. After a long and unnecessary standoff between Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and their star defensive end, Parsons requested to be traded. After reassuring Dallas fans that wouldn't be happening, it happened. And to the Packers of ALL teams.
It was heartbreaking for the Dallas fanbase, but the backlash has been surprisingly mild. When he makes his return to Dallas, he won't be honored with a tribute, but he will likely be well-received as he was very much loved in the Big D.
Of potentially sacking his former QB Dak Prescott, Parsons said, "It's going to be painful."
"That's my guy. He was always like a good mentor for me. But you know how it is, he always told me if I ever faced him that it'll be a great matchup, so I'm excited to see what Sunday brings itself."

The last time they met...a game the 'Boys would like to forget
When the Packers last faced the Cowboys in the 2024 NFC Wild Card game, Jordan Love delivered a near-flawless performance, building a 48-16 lead before a late Dallas rally made the 48-32 final look closer than it was.
Love finished with a perfect passer rating, Romeo Doubs had a career-best outing, and Darnell Savage scored on a pick-six - while Micah Parsons, now on the Packers' side, was held without a sack.
