Update:

Less than one month after joining the Green Bay Packers, Trevon Diggs is set to be a free agent once again.

The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback was claimed off waivers by the Packers ahead of the NFL postseason. He featured in two games for the team, playing one snap in the Wild Card loss to the Chicago Bears.

Now, Diggs has been released as part of a series of roster changes made by the Packers in a bid to future-proof the team. Diggs, the brother of four-time Pro Bowl selection Stefon, will now be looking for a new team for the 2026 NFL season.

Why did Trevon Diggs leave the Cowboys?

Trevon Diggs was a second-round pick for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was ranked as decent prospect heading into his rookie season but he exceeded expectations, quickly become the Cowboys’ first-choice cornerback.

In 2021 Diggs finished as the league’s interception leader and was named to the Pro Bowl first team. He followed that up with another Pro Bowl selection in 2022 and was then rewarded with a massive five-year contract extension worth $97 million.

However his progress was curtailed by an ACL injury suffered in September 2023, ensuring that he missed the remaining 15 games of the season. He returned for the 2024 season but has not been the same player since.

That lucrative five-year deal soon looked very expensive and the Cowboys were no longer getting the same amount of production from Diggs. He was already set to be released after the 2025 season but the Cowboys made the decision to release him in December, allowing Diggs to join another team for the remainder of the season.

His playoff journey with the Green Bay Packers did not progress past the Wild Card Weekend and he now finds himself looking for a new team once again.
