Patrick and Brittany Mahomes suffer surprise disappointment before Chiefs camp
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany discovered some bad news ahead of the Chiefs training camp later this month.

After suffering a devastating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl last season, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is heading into the 2025 NFL season looking for a better outcome. The Chiefs get started with training camp later this month, but unfortunately Mahomes has already been dealt a blow.
WNBA dashes Mahomes’ expansion dream
While Mahomes and his wife Brittany have had some exciting news to share recently with their new home and the birth of their third child, not everything is going as well as they’d hoped.

Back in February, Mahomes spoke about wanting to be part of a WNBA expansion franchise in Kansas City with Brittany. They even met with the league in October to discuss a possible expansion. The couple already invest in Kansas City’s NWSL team, the KC Current.
“You see how Kansas City has embraced all sports that have been in the city, especially women’s sports,” said Patrick. “I’ve seen it first hand with the Kansas City Current. I know if we were able to get a WNBA team to Kansas City, it would be packed every single night. That’s just the kind of atmosphere that we have in Kansas City.”
“I’m hoping we can get that done and we can continue to push women’s sports forward.”
Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen just yet. The Sports Business Journal reported in February that Cleveland was next in line for an expansion team, with Philadelphia, Houston, Nashville, Detroit, and Miami the other cities being considered.

This week, it became official. The Cleveland Rockers, a franchise which existed from 1997 to 2003, will return to the WNBA in 2028. The next two cities after Cleveland will be Detroit in 2029 and Philadelphia in 2030. But Kansas City is not on the list, to the Mahomes’ disappointment. At least not yet.

In the meantime, Mahomes will now shift focus to Chiefs training camp, starting July 22. He and the Chiefs kick off the regular season with a Friday night international game in São Paulo, Brazil, where they’ll take on the Los Angeles Chargers.
