Update:

For the first time in his NFL career, Patrick Mahomes will be watching the playoffs from home.

Under head coach Andy Reid, the Kansas City Chiefs have built a dynasty behind Mahomes and have appeared in five of the last six Super Bowls. Mahomes, still only 30 years old, already has three championship rings but he won’t be adding to that tally this season.

The Chiefs fell to a 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, slipping to a 6-8 record on the season. That loss mathematically eliminates the Chiefs from playoff contention.

Mahomes exiting the game in the final moments of the defeat, later reported as an ACL tear. Writing on social media shortly after the game, Mahomes promised that he and the team would be back stronger after this setback.

Mahomes, who limped off the field and had to be helped to the locker room, promised fans: “I will be back stronger than ever.

The Chiefs still have three games remaining this season, including a Christmas Day game that is likely to draw a significant global audience. Those remaining fixtures are a trip to the Tennessee Titans (December 21), hosting the Denver Broncos (December 25) and a final visit to the Las Vegas Raiders (January 4).
