New England Patriots running back, James White, has officially retired from the NFL after eight seasons. The hero of Super Bowl LI took to social media on Thursday, sharing that he’s looking forward to his next chapter in life.

Known as Sweet Feet, White leaves behind a respectable resume filled with outstanding achievements that showcase his incredible team skills just as much as his talent.

James White career stats and achievements

The 30-year-old’s most memorable performance was in Super Bowl LI, when he set a record with 14 catches, accounting for a record 20 points in New England’s iconic 34-28 overtime comeback victory over Atlanta. White was a huge part of that victory in Houston, making play after play under a margin of no error with so much hunger that he recorded the only overtime touchdown in Super Bowl history- his third of the game.

On his way to another Super Bowl title in 2018, White notched 15 receptions in a divisional round victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Since 2015 no running back in the NFL had more receptions (376) or receiving touchdowns (25) than the Florida-native, in addition to his 3,255 receiving yards that ranked second.

White was also a lot of things on and off the field. He was “one of the most respected, best team players Bill Belichick “has ever coached.” He was a Patriots captain for four consecutive seasons, which speaks highly of his leadership skills and character among his teammates and coaches.

James White was a lot of things

In addition to all his achievements on the field, James defined the term consummate professional. “His dependability, consistency, unselfishness and performance under pressure are elite. Combining great intelligence, quickness and elusiveness, James was a perfect fit for our pass offense. While soft spoken, he brought exceptional leadership and competitive toughness to the team,” said Belichick.

White’s professionalism will be missed within the Patriots, and within the NFL.
