Philadelphia Eagles 14 - 13 New England Patriots summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Preseason Week 3
There were snap problems all night for the Patriots, and a fumbled snap late in the fourth quarter is what brought the game to an end. Bailey Zappe played just one series, the final one, but never got a chance to win the game because the drive was cut short with the fumbled snap.
Both teams will hit the practice fields hard for the next week before playing their final tune up game. New England will take on Washington in a battle of top three rookies and the Eagles will play the Vikings as they try to end their preseason undefeated.

The Eagles, as we have seen them do so often at the end of games, made a comeback and took the game in Gillette Stadium. Tanner McKee came back on to the field after going to the bench for what seemed to be the rest of the night. He replaced Grier, and construced the game winning drive with under 5:00 to go. Kendall Milton ran in the touchdown and the McKee found Ainias Smith for the two point conversion to take the lead. McKee ended the night 15/19 for 140 yards, and made what turned out to be the game winning play.

After Will Grier set up a field goal from Jake Elliott to cut the lead to four, Davis Wallis had one of the best run backs we have seen with the new kickoff rule. This would allow Joe Milton to move the ball down the field and set up a Joey Slye field goal from 45 yards out to keep a 7 point lead with 10 minutes to go.
I think we can all agree, this new kick off rule is going to bring some excitement back to a part of the game that disappeared for a few years.
Grier went 3/5 for 35 yards in a short stint on the field, while Milton was 2/7 for just 20 yards and got sacked twice after a good showing in his debut.

We didn't see much of Drake Maye in the Pats first game against the Panthers, but he played almost two quarters and put New England on the board on his first two drives. Jake Elliott hit a 42 yard field goal for the first points of the game, and then Maye ran this four yard TD in right before the break to give the Pats a 10-3 lead at halftime. Maye ended the night 6/11 with 47 yards and another 15 yards on four rushes.

Matthew Judon may be gone, but the Pats pressure has been affecting Pickett all game. Pickett got the start and didn't throw the ball terribly, going 11/13 for 67 yards, but he was constantly pressured by the Pats defense who sacked him four times and Will Grier once.

The Philadelphia Eagles made a fourth quarter comeback and won their second straight preseason game as the starters watched from the sidelines. Tanner McKee was the hero, leading his team to a late touchdown and two point conversion in the 14-13 win.
Before McKee could play hero, it was Jacoby Brissett who got the start for a second straight game and drove the Pats down inside the 10 yard line, but committed the cardinal sin of any QB competing for a starting job. Avonte Maddox picked him off in the endzone and took it back to around midfield. That set up a 42 yard Jake Elliott field goal for the first points of the game.

Coach Mayo's turn
Jerod May is coming into a tough situation in New England. Bill Belichick was on the sidelines in Foxborough for the last couple of decades, leading them to six Super Bowl wins and turning the Pats into the winningest franchise in the league. Quick question, who followed in the footsteps of Vince Lombardi in Green Bay? Or Phil Jackson in Chicago? Or Joe Torre with the Yankees? The fact is, it’s hard to try and replace a legendary coach, especially being a coach with zero head coach experience. After played with the Pats for seven years, Mayo joined the staff in 2019 as the inside linebacker coach. He was promoted to head coach last year after Belichick and the Pats parted ways. If he has one thing on his side, it’s that he’s not coming into a winning team, so there is really no where to go but up.
Last year: Patriots
Bill Belichick’s last year in New England couldn’t have gone much worse. The six time Super Bowl winner had suffered some horrendous seasons in the post Tom Brady era, but last year was the summon. With Mac Jones as their quarterback, they won just two of their first 11 games of the season. Jones got benched, and to make matters worse Rhamondre Stevenson went down with a season ending injury. Bailey Zappe finished the season as quarterback winning two of the final six games, but the Pats finished the season with the third worst record in the league, which set up their third overall pick in the Draft.

Last year: Eagles
Philly went into last season as one of the favorites in the NFC after making it to the Super Bowl the previous year. Jalen Hurts got a couple of new weapons including AJ Brown, and the defense looked even better than the year before for the first 11 games of the season. Everything started to turn upside down when they got drilled by the 49ers in Week 13. That started a spiral and Philly would go on to lose five of their final six games to end the season as they lost their grip on conference and their division. Their late season collapse led to a playoff match up with the Tampa Bay Bucs who snuck into the playoffs out of the NFC South. They got crushed 32-9 in a stunning result in the opening round and their season that was filled with so much hope came crashing to an end.

Star watch: Eagles
For Philly tonight is going to be a first glimpse at some familiar faces this season. In the Eagles first preseason game we didn’t see Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley or AJ Brown, but I’d be surprised if Nick Sirriani doesn’t want to get his guys some run under their new offensive coordinator. The same goes for Josh Sweat and Jalen Carter on the defensive end. Both sets of starters are going to have to used to playing under Vic Fangio and Kellen Moore. This preseason is as much for the coaches as it is for the players, and if the coordinators don’t have their guys out there, even for a few snaps, it’s going to be hard to get a measure of how things are progressing in Eagles camp.

Star watch: Patriots
It’s all about the Patriots QBs tonight from Gillette Stadium. Drake May will most likely get more than a series against the Eagles as the No. 3 overall pick looks to impress the home fans and the coaches as they continue their search for a QB1 in New England. We only got a small sample size in his preseason debut when he completed two of his three short passes on his only drive, but he passed for over 7,700 yards and 59 TDs with just 16 INTs in two years as North Carolina’s staring QB. That was enough to persuade the Pats to taking him with the third pick as they continue to seed Tom Brady’s heir.

Last game: Patriots
It was an ugly start to the preseason opener for both the Pats and the Panthers who punted the ball nine straight times before a single point was scored. Jacoby Brissett got the start at QB and played just a series before No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye took over under center. Neither could do much to move the ball, but Bailey Zappe finally marched the Pats down the field and into the end zone midway through the second quarter. The Pats went to half up by 7 points, as their defense held strong against an terrible looking Panthers offense. After seven Zappe drives, it was Joe Milton who came in a quarterback and finally brought some life to the game. A couple of escapes out of the pocket that turned into big plays, a field goal and a 38 yard TD pass to Justin Jackson was enough to seal the game with 9:00 to go in the 4th quarter.

Last game: Eagles
Jalen Hurts didn’t play in the preseason opener against the Ravens last week. Neither did very many of the starters we expect to see playing in Week 1. Instead it was new QB Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee headlining under center. Neither had tremendous games, but they didn’t struggle as much as Jake Elliott who missed an extra point and a field goal to take the lead with 21 seconds to go, but a fumble from the Ravens gave the ball back to the Eagles at the BAL 31 yard line. Elliott got his redemption with a game winning 49 yard field goal as the clock expired.

We are live from Gillette
Hello everyone and welcome to Foxborough where the Patriots are back home after for their second game of the preseason as they continue their search for a Week 1 starter at quarterback. First year coach Jerod Mayo has his work cut out for him as he takes over on the sidelines after one of the most successful coaching reigns in NFL history. The Eagles on the other hand are looking to bounce back from a disastrous end to the season in which they finished the year losing five of their last six before getting bounced from the playoffs. Philly went out and brought in some brand new coordinators on both sides of the ball, so the next couple games could be a good chance for the starters to gets a few more snaps before the start of the regular season.
