Philip Rivers could have NFL offers for 2026
The Indianapolis Colts shocked the league by bringing back the 44-year-old Rivers this season. He might be around to stay in NFL.

One of the biggest surprises of the 2025 NFL season has been the return of Philip Rivers, the 44-year-old grandfather who has returned to play after four years away from the game.
Rivers signed a short-term deal with the Indianapolis Colts after an injury to Daniel Jones in Week 14. He returned to the team that he guided into the playoffs back in 2020, the Colts’ most recent postseason appearance.

During this unexpected late-career spell, Rivers has been a steady pair of hands for Indianapolis. Looking ahead, he could have offers to remain in the league.
What is Philip Rivers doing for the 2026 NFL season?
The 44-year-old Rivers has been an adequate fill-in QB for the Colts through the end of the season. However it is fair to assume that he will not be retaining the role for 2026 and rookie Riley Leonard has been given the opportunity to step in for the Colts’ final game of the season.
But Rivers could still be in the league for next season. NFL.com reports that Rivers could be a head coach candidate for the upcoming cycle, with the chance to interview at multiple NFL teams. Teams have been making background calls on Rivers, who has been coaching in high school while away from the game.
So, where could Rivers end up? The New York Giants and the Tennessee Titans both have vacancies, while the Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders and Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons may decide to make a change on the league’s ‘Black Monday’ for coaches.
Rivers has reportedly been unwilling to pursue an NFL coaching career so far, preferring to coach at St. Michael Catholic, where his son Gunner is a four-star quarterback prospect. However a return to the NFL on a more permanent basis is not out of the question.
