Update:

The Las Vegas Raiders insist they expect star defensive end Maxx Crosby to be on the roster in the 2026 season, but the way they said it left room for speculation.

Maxx Crosby - still a Raider in 2026? Here’s what Spytek said

Speaking to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Raiders general manager John Spytek said he “expects” Crosby to remain with the team in 2026. On the surface, that sounds like a firm stance about the future of the franchise’s best defensive player. But in NFL front-office language, “expects” does not translate to guarantee.

He didn’t say “he’s not going anywhere” or “we’re building around him.” He didn’t even say “he will be here.” Spytek’s statement leaves just enough room for interpretation, especially during Combine week, when trade frameworks begin and contract negotiations intensify across the league.

Crosby, a multi-time Pro Bowl edge rusher and team captain, is widely viewed as the face of the Raiders’ defense. If Las Vegas were considering a full rebuild, he would instantly become one of the most valuable trade assets in the league. Elite pass rushers rarely hit the market, and contenders would line up with offers. Instead, Spytek’s comment suggests the Raiders are not looking to tear things down, at least publicly.

There’s also the contract factor. Crosby remains one of the premier edge defenders in football, and the market for elite pass rushers continues to rise. Addressing his status now could be part of a broader positioning strategy as extension conversations linger.

The NFL Combine is where the groundwork is laid for trades, restructures and long-term roster direction. By choosing this moment to address Crosby’s future, the Raiders sent a message that he remains central to their plans. At least for now.
