SUPER BOWL LVIII

Raiders’ Janarius Robinson tarnishes Las Vegas’ Super Bowl preparations with arrest. What happened?

With the spotlight firmly on Sin City, both the 49ers and Chiefs have stayed clear of trouble. The same can’t be said for one of the Raiders’ players.

With the spotlight firmly on Sin City, both the 49ers and Chiefs have stayed clear of trouble. The same can’t be said for one of the Raiders’ players.

While they won’t be playing in the NFL’s biggest game which their hometown is hosting, the Raiders took center stage this week for all the wrong reasons. Needless to say, one player in particular will have some questions to answer in the coming days.

Raiders’ Janarius Robinson arrested for DUI

According to multiple reports, Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Janarius Robinson was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Tuesday morning. As per FOX5, Robinson was detained by law enforcement officials at 5:59 a.m. near the 3700 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard, while another report from News 3 in Vegas indicated that Robinson was taken near the valet area of the Aria Casino on the strip. Regardless of which what we do know is that the former Florida State player is now facing charges of which the Raiders themselves are aware. “The Raiders are aware of an incident involving Janarius Robinson last night,” the team said. “The club is in the process of gathering more information.”

What exactly is Janarius Robinson facing?

Following a release on his own recognizance, it is understood that Robinson was charged with a misdemeanor. To that end, the 24-year-old will now have to return to court on June 4th. Needless to say, this is not a good start to life in Las Vegas for a player who has only been with the Raiders since being signed to the practice squad back on August 31st of last year. Where numbers are concerned, the DE managed just one sack on the season during a dismal 3-0 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14. Incidentally, the Vikings were the team that selected him in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He is currently under contract through the 2024 season.

The timing couldn’t be worse for the Raiders

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you will know that Robinson’s arrest comes at a time when Super Bowl pre-festivities are at a fever pitch. With the Kansas City Chiefs set to take on the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday evening at Allegiant Stadium - the Raiders’ home field - all eyes are on the city. That’s to say that the arrest of one of the team’s players just a few miles away from the stadium is not at all a good look. It remains unclear what comes next for Robinson, but it would be safe to assume it won’t be a pat on the back.
