Raiders take drastic step involving top earner after falling again to the Browns
After another ineffective outing in a 24-10 defeat to Cleveland, Las Vegas decides to cut ties with coordinator Chip Kelly.

To say the 2025 NFL season hasn’t gone the way the Las Vegas Raiders hoped would be a serious understatement, and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly has now paid for it with his job.
Raiders fall to Browns for fifth straight loss
In Week 12, Las Vegas suffered a fifth straight defeat, this time to the Cleveland Browns, who had gone into Sunday’s game having lost six of their previous seven. But in his first NFL start, quarterback Shedeur Sanders lifted the Browns to a resounding 24-10 win on the road.

The loss leaves the Raiders at the bottom of the AFC West. Their 2-9 record puts them four games behind the Kansas City Chiefs, who sit in third place. While Las Vegas is not yet mathematically eliminated from postseason contention, that moment is coming soon.
Carroll reveals Chip Kelly decision after another loss
After the weekend defeat, head coach Pete Carroll revealed in a press release that the team had decided to relieve Kelly of his duties following another ineffective offensive showing.
The former Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers head coach arrived in Nevada this past offseason after helping the Ohio State Buckeyes win the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship in his lone season there. With his stock soaring, Kelly reportedly signed a $6 million per year deal, the highest salary for any coordinator in the league.
“I spoke with Chip Kelly earlier this evening and informed him of his release as offensive coordinator of the Raiders,” Carroll said. “I would like to thank Chip for his service and wish him all the best in the future.”
Who will replace Chip Kelly as Raiders OC?
There is no word yet on who will replace Kelly as the Raiders shift their attention toward 2026, with this season already written off.
