Matthew Stafford made an immediate impact last year with the Los Angeles Rams, leading them to Super Bowl victory, and the Californian franchise is hoping the right elbow injury that has bothered him during the offseason won’t affect him during the regular season.

Stafford “felt pretty good” despite elbow worry

Speaking to the media after practice on Sunday, the Rams quarterback said he “just felt a little soreness”, but “felt pretty good”.

“I don’t know if you guys were watching,” Stafford said. “I felt like I could make any throw I wanted to today. I’m just trying to be smart when I get those opportunities to make sure I can come out here, cut it loose, turn it loose like I did today and go from there.”

According to a report by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the former Detroit Lions player is suffering from tendinitis in his elbow.

McVay supports his QB

Rams head coach Sean McVay also played down Stafford’s injury, telling reporters: “He threw it all over the yard today, looked really good, felt good. We’re very much on track with what we had hoped and I think you could really see.

“The ball was jumping out of his hand, making all types of throws, and so I think he was trying to show you guys that there’s probably not many questions you can ask him either based on how he felt in the way he was throwing it around today.”
