Rams rule out surgery for Matthew Stafford, but QB will be out for the season
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay says quarterback Matthew Stafford won’t be undergoing surgery for a spine injury, but he will be out for the season.
Matthew Stafford, starting quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, will not undergo an operation for a spinal cord contusion, which he suffered in their Week 11 game against the New Orleans Saints.
However, he has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
“As far as I know, none of that (surgery) will be required or necessary. And it's going to be great for Matthew to have a healthy offseason and do a lot of the things that I think he'll feel good about doing,” said head coach Sean McVay.

Stafford had to leave the game against the Saints and McVay said that hours later, the quarterback felt a little numbness in his legs after receiving the blow in the game.
The QB has since entered concussion protocol and was placed on injured reserve in recent days.
Baker Mayfield Plan B is still in force
Stafford is estimated to be eligible to return in week 17 against the Los Angeles Chargers; but the situation would still be analyzed, since they have already hired the services of quarterback Baker Mayfield, who led their comeback against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Stafford played in nine games this season, completing 68% of his passes for 2,087 yards and collecting 10 touchdown passes, allowing eight interceptions.
