What's left: Rams

The Rams are at the top of the NFC, but they can’t afford to slip up for the final few games of the season. They have a tough two games before ending the season against teams with losing records. They have the Lions today, then head to Seattle for what will be a game that could decide who wins the division and who gets the one seed in the NFC. After that they travel to Atlanta for a Monday night game, and then finish off the season against the Cardinals at home.

What's left: Lions

The Lions know there is little to no room for error today in LA. They have four games left and each of them is a must win, but it’s not going to be easy looking at their remaining schedule. They play LA today, then head back home to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The final two games of the season are on the road against divisional opponents. First they take on the Minnesota Vikings and then the Chicago Bears to finish off the season. Depending on how things go over the next few weeks, that game in Chicago could be a play in game.

Stafford's era in Detroit

Matthew Stafford already had a Hall of Fame career in Detroit, despite being surrounded by trash teams for most of his time in the Motor City. Despite that he was still touted as one of the best QBs in the league despite leading them to the playoffs just three times. Today he faces the team that drafted him out of the University of Georgia and he has a chance to put an end to their playoff hopes. Something that he would love to do after Lions fans booed him when he returned to Ford Field back in 2024.

Detroit's X factor

He is the most explosive, and dynamic player in the NFL. Jahmyr Gibbs He’s got 1,062 yards on the ground with 13 TDs, averaging 5.7 yards per carry and has another 474 yards and 3 TDs receiving. He is the X factor for this explosive Lions offense and he is going to have to take this game over against a Rams defense that has shown they can be torn apart like they were in Carolina. Keep an eye on the Detroit number 0, he could be primed for a massive game today.

NFC Standings

The balance of power seems to have shifted to the NFC where there are good teams up and down the board. At the top of all of those good teams sit the Rams who are tied with division rivals the Seattle Seahawks at 10-3. They have the tie break after winning the first of two games against Seattle, but there are a few teams right on their heels. The Packers are 9-3-1, and the Bears are 9-4 in the NFC North. The Lions are just a game back of the Bears at 8-5 but currently they would be out of the playoff picture if the season ended today. They know every game is a must win from here on out and it starts here in LA.

Lions star watch

Jared Goff felt slighted by the Rams when they traded him away to the Detroit Lions. Since then he has become one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He is consistently the most accurate QB in the league, and for the last couple years he has had the Lions closer than they have ever been to the Super Bowl. Some say their Super Bowl window is closing but Goff will have something to say about that. This is a huge game for Goff personally, but also for the Lions who want to show they should be taken seriously as Super Bowl contenders.

Rams star watch

We all know the story of the Lions and the Rams making a QB for QB trade year ago. They sent Jared Goff to Detroit and got Matt Stafford in return. He helped them win the Super Bowl that year and since then has only solidified his place in the Hall of Fame. But for everything that he has done, there is still one box to be checked off. He has never won an MVP and may never be closer. Not only is he QB of the top team in the NFC but he is leading the NFL with 35 TDs and just four INTs, and his 3,354 yards are the fourth most in the league. He is currently the front runner for MVP and games like today's are usually when you make or break your MVP case.

Lions last game

The Lions have exchanged wins and losses for the last nine games and last game was their turn to get back in the win column. The Lions hosted the Dallas Cowboys and it was the ground game that put Detroit ahead early on with a couple of rushing TDs from David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. It was 20-9 at half and Jared Goff added to that lead with a TD right out of the break. Gibbs would go on to score two more TDs to complete his hat trick and the Lions rolled to a 44-30 win over the Cowboys.

Rams last game

The Rams were stunned in Carolina two weeks ago, but they responded like a team that deserves to be at the top of the NFC. LA went into Arizona and wiped the floor with the Cardinals in a divisional match up from State Farm Stadium. Matthew Stafford continued his MVP campaign, throwing for three TDs and 281 yards. The game was never in question as the Rams pulled away in the 2nd quarter and added to their lead before finishing the game 45-17 to stay at the top of the division and the conference.
