Rams outduel Panthers in Wild Card thriller
The heavily favored Rams survived a major scare on the road, barely beating the Panthers 34–31 in a thrilling Wild Card showdown that exceeded the hype. What many expected to be a comfortable Los Angeles win turned into a back-and-forth playoff classic, decided only in the final minute by Matthew Stafford's late-game heroics.
Stafford threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns, delivering his biggest strike with 38 seconds left, when he hit Colby Parkinson for a 19-yard go-ahead touchdown after Carolina had just taken the lead. It capped a calm, surgical two-minute drill that featured clutch completions to Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, and it sent the Rams to the Divisional Round.
Nacua once again proved to be Stafford's most trusted target, finishing with 10 catches for 111 yards and a touchdown, while also adding a rushing score. Adams chipped in 72 yards, and Kyren Williams helped seal the win with 57 rushing yards and a critical 13-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Carolina refused to go quietly. Bryce Young shook off early mistakes to engineer a resilient performance, throwing for 264 yards and a touchdown while adding a rushing score. The Panthers leaned on explosive plays, led by Jalen Coker, who had a breakout night with nine catches for 134 yards and a touchdown, including a pivotal 52-yard grab that helped swing momentum late. Chuba Hubbard powered the ground game with two rushing touchdowns, and Carolina briefly stunned the crowd by taking a 31–27 lead with just over two minutes remaining after a blocked punt set up a short-field score.
In the end, turnovers and experience told the story. Stafford was intercepted once, but the Rams capitalized on key opportunities and answered every Carolina punch down the stretch. Young’s final drive ended under heavy pressure, with the Rams’ defense forcing a turnover on downs to seal it.
Los Angeles advances after escaping one of the weekend’s most dramatic games, while the Panthers’ season ends with a performance that showed how close they are to becoming a true postseason threat.

Halftime report - Rams 17, Panthers 14
The Rams looked in control early, but the Panthers made things interesting late, sending the game to halftime with Los Angeles holding a slim 17–14 lead at Bank of America Stadium.
Los Angeles capitalized on Carolina's early mistakes, turning short fields into points. After a failed fourth-down try by the Panthers on their opening drive, Matthew Stafford hit Puka Nacua for a 14-yard touchdown to open the scoring. Another Panthers miscue followed when Bryce Young was intercepted, and the Rams quickly cashed in again early in the second quarter with Nacua finding the end zone for the second time, pushing the lead to 14–0 and quieting the crowd.
The Panthers gradually found their footing. Young settled down and began pushing the ball downfield, connecting on several chunk plays before Chuba Hubbard finished a drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown. The Rams answered with a steady drive of their own, highlighted by a 36-yard catch from Tyler Higbee, and added a 46-yard field goal to stretch the lead back to 17–7. But just before halftime, Young delivered a confidence-boosting drive, firing a 37-yard strike to Jalen Coker and then scrambling 16 yards for a touchdown. The late score cut the deficit to three and sent the Panthers into the locker room with momentum, and the home crowd back in it.

The NFL playoff opener will feature a familiar Broadway voice before kickoff, adding a touch of theater to Wild Card weekend...
Dynamic duo
Puka Nacua and Davante Adams form a dynamic duo that has significantly impacted the Rams offense, with Adams mentoring the younger Nacua, who has quickly become a top target alongside the veteran.
The two have a mutual respect for one another, with Nacua admiring Adams' veteran savvy, and Adams being inspired by Nacua's competitive spirit, creating an exciting receiving corps with Matthew Stafford.
Well...why not?
The force that is Puka
Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua has emerged as one of the NFL's premier wide receivers, despite being a Day 3 draft pick and missing time during the 2025 season. Nacua had a record-setting campaign, earning All-Pro recognition while catching nearly 78% of his targets. His physical, fearless style meshes perfectly with quarterback Matthew Stafford, making him a centerpiece of the Rams’ offense and a major driver of their third straight playoff appearance.
Los Angeles’ confidence in Nacua was highlighted by the decision to move on from Cooper Kupp and pair him with Davante Adams, whose skill set complements Nacua’s. Rather than competing for touches, the two formed a productive partnership, combining for over 2,500 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns despite missing four total games. With Nacua anchoring the offense and multiple weapons around him, the Rams enter the postseason believing their passing attack can thrive. even on the road, as they begin their push toward the Super Bowl.
Lessons learned from Rams' Week 13 loss to Panthers...
The Rams' Week 13 loss to the Panthers can be traced to three interconnected factors: tempo, turnovers, and time of possession.
Although the Rams jumped out to an early lead and averaged an impressive 7.4 yards per play, Carolina stuck to a run-heavy game plan that controlled the pace of the game. By rushing 40 times and passing only 20, the Panthers dictated tempo, kept the Rams’ offense off the field, and forced LA into defensive adjustments that favored Carolina’s strategy. Meanwhile, the Rams leaned too heavily on the pass despite having success on the ground, a strategic imbalance that proved costly.
Turnovers and clock control ultimately decided the outcome. LA lost the turnover battle 3–0, including two first-quarter interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) that flipped early momentum and erased what should have been a commanding Rams lead. Carolina held the ball for over 10 more minutes than Los Angeles, wearing down a road-weary defense and limiting scoring opportunities for an otherwise efficient offense.
The lesson for the Rams is clear: to reverse the result in the postseason, they must protect the football, seize control of time of possession, and dictate tempo.
After 18 weeks of grueling regular season action a panel of 50 media members has selected the NFL All-Pro teams for 2025, celebrating the top performers across the season.
The headline news is that Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams is named quarterback for the All-Pro first team, beating out competition from Drake Maye.
Carolina must win out to avoid finishing below .500, while Rams QB Matthew Stafford looks to redeem Week 13 mistakes with Davante Adams back.
Dotson and Whittington are huge losses for the Rams as they prepare for a physical Wild Card matchup.
Bryce Young set for first career playoff start
Bryce Young is know for his calm demeanor and clutch reputation. He now prepares for his first NFL playoff start. Despite external pressure and the Panthers entering as heavy underdogs, Young's approach has remained unchanged - businesslike, steady, and composed.
Head coach Dave Canales and teammates emphasize that this consistency is why Young has excelled in high-leverage moments, including leading six game-winning drives this season, tied for the most in the NFL. One of those comebacks came against the Rams in Week 13, reinforcing confidence in his ability to handle the moment.
Young’s career has been defined by resilience amid inconsistency. While his overall statistics rank in the lower half of the league and Carolina frequently trails late in games, Young has delivered in pressure situations, accounting for 12 game-winning drives in his career, the most among quarterbacks since he entered the league. His improvement since being benched early in 2024 is notable, particularly in pre-snap reads and decision-making.
As Young enters the postseason, his long-term future with the franchise remains tied to continued progress. Carolina plans to exercise his fifth-year option, but a deep playoff run could accelerate broader commitment. While history shows first-time playoff quarterbacks often struggle, the Panthers believe Young’s experience in pressure situations, dating back to high school and college, has prepared him for this stage.
Ultimately, how he performs against the Rams will not only shape the game’s outcome but also help define the next phase of his career.
Bryce Young staying put in Carolina another few years

Panthers Injury Report
Carolina enters Wild Card Weekend in excellent health, with no players carrying an injury designation into the game. Guard Robert Hunt was activated and available, while Chandler Zavala had been listed as questionable earlier in the week despite full practices, ultimately clearing without issue. Most notably, the Panthers are at full defensive strength compared to Week 13, when they were without Jaycee Horn, Tre'von Moehrig, Christian Rozeboom, and Claudin Cherelus. With Tershawn Wharton returning from injury, Carolina fields its healthiest lineup in weeks for its first home playoff game in a decade.

Tight end Terrance Ferguson, who missed the regular-season finale with a hamstring injury, was listed as questionable but will sit out a second straight game. It's a windy one in Charlotte today...
Rain and strong winds are expected to significantly affect the Rams-Panthers game today, with potential for thunderstorms early on, leading to slick conditions, more running plays, and challenges for passing games and kickers.
Expect high humidity and winds possibly gusting up to 40+ MPH, impacting ball security and kicking accuracy, though temperatures in the 60s are milder.
The winter sun limped over the horizon at 7:32 this morning in Charlotte. And its first rays fell on Panthers fans already in position outside the Bank of American stadium, as they marked their side's return to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
The Panthers' path to playoffs
The Panthers' path to the postseason wasn't nearly as straightforward as the Rams. Their season came down to the final game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Panthers finished the 2025 regular season with an 8–9 record, but still captured 1st place in the NFC South, marking their first playoff berth since 2017 and their first division title since 2015. They won the NFC South through a three-way tie (8–9 with the Buccaneers and Falcons) and a favorable head-to-head tiebreaker, becoming one of the few teams in NFL history to win a division with a losing record.
Quarterback Bryce Young, in his third NFL season, led the Panthers' offense with over 3,000 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, showing flashes of elite play at times, including setting the franchise single-game passing record with 448 yards in an overtime win, but also inconsistency across the season. Carolina’s offense had notable moments but ultimately struggled with turnovers and efficiency, while the defense and complementary game-planning helped the team stay competitive in close contests.
Despite finishing below .500, the Panthers secured the No. 4 seed in the NFC, setting up their game today as hosts to the Rams.
The Rams' path to the postseason
The Rams finished the regular season 12-5 and second in the NFC West behind the NFC top seed Seattle Seahawks, earning the No. 5 seed in the NFC playoff picture.
Los Angeles has had one of the league's most explosive offenses, scoring 518 points (30.5 per game) and ranking near the top in both total yards and scoring, while also posting a strong +172 point differential.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford led the NFL with 46 touchdown passes and over 4,700 passing yards, and wide receiver Puka Nacua led the league in receptions and finished with over 1,700 receiving yards. Running back Kyren Williams also had a standout season with over 1,200 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Defensively, the Rams were solid overall, though special teams remained a relative weak spot compared with their offense and defense units.
Their strong performance ensured a third straight winning season and playoff berth under head coach Sean McVay, continuing a stretch of sustained competitiveness for the franchise.
Revenge game for Stafford
The Rams are back in Carolina for the second time this season, but hoping for a much different outcome than the last time.
The Rams and Panthers played each other in Week 13, when the Panthers upset the Rams 31-28. As is expected today, it was a rainy day in Charlotte in November, and Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford committed three crucial turnovers. Panthers quarterback Bryce Young threw for three long touchdown passes and Carolina snapped the Rams' six-game winning streak.
It was a strip-sack of Stafford on 3rd down that sealed the game for the Panthers. So now the Rams will look to avenge themselves in the postseason, and with a Super Bowl run on the line.
