Rams 27 vs 31 Seahawks summary, stats, score and highlights | NFL Playoffs NFC Championship

Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks are heading to Santa Clara for Super Bowl LX where they will meet Drake Maye and the New England Patriots. 

The Rams had their chance to win the game, but failed to pick up a 3rd down conversion inside the 10, and they decided to go for it on 4th down. The Seahawks top rated defense came up with the biggest play of the night agains the Rams top offense and they held on to the lead with 5:00 left. The Seahawks had some work to do but they got some big runs from Kenneth Walker and Cooper Kupp came up with a huge catch to extend the drive and run the clock out. 

The Rams were stopped on 3rd and long before this play, but a taunting call gave LA a first down, and Stafford punished the mistake just a play after finding Puka Nacua with this 34 yard TD pass. Stafford ended the night with 374 yards and 3 TDs on 22/35 passing and Nacua had 165 yards on 9 catches but it wasn't enough. 

On 3rd and 3, it was the former Ram who was let go this offseason and signed with LA's division rival, Cooper Kupp puting the Seahawks back up by 11 late in the third quarter. He had 4 catches for 36 yards and what ended up being the winning score against his old team. 

Stafford needed just four plays to respond and cut into the double digit lead that SEA had built up. He hit Davante Adams with this TD pass to bring it to a 4 point game just minutes after the TD from Bobo. 

The Seahawks would punish the Rams mistake with a Darnold pass to Jake Bobo in the end zone. It was the TE's fourth catch of the year but it put the Seahawks up by 11 early in the third quarter. 

The Seahawks got the ball to start the 2nd half, but they were stopped just a couple minutes in to the third quarter and forced to punt. Xavier Smith muffed the punt and SEA took over with great field position. 

The Seahawks answered right back with a quick TD drive with less than 30 seconds to go in the first half. Darnold found a wide open Jaxson Smith-Njigba in the end zone wide open for the TD. He finished the night with 10 catches for 153 yards. 

The Rams offense took a while to get going in a hostile environment, but finally got into the end zone right before the halftime break. Matt Stafford found Kyren Williams on the opening TD of LA's night. They took the lead and this would ignite the fireworks for the rest of the night. 

The Seattle Seahawks are heading to the Super Bowl after winning the NFC Championship in a high scoring, thrilling game against the Los Angeles Rams. Sam Darrnold has a heroic performance, going for 346 yards and three TDs. 

The Seahawks stopped LA to a three and out to open the game, and then Darnold started his night off by driving his team down the field and putting the first points on the board with this TD pass to Kenneth Walker.

With a minute to go in the half, the Seahawks drove it down the field and retook the lead with this wide open pass from Darnold to JSN. Darnold has 209 yards and a TD on 12/18 passing and JSN has 115 of those yards on 7 catches. 

The Rams took the lead with an 87 yard drive that took 12 plays and 7:23 off the clock. Stafford hit Williams on this easy catch and run for the TD. Stafford has 125 yards on 8/15 passing with this TD. 

The Rams took a little while to get going and had to settle for a couple FGs, the first of which was set up by this deep shot from Stafford to Nacua. 

Kenneth Walker had three TDs against the Niners last week and he's got one against the Rams after this third down run to put Seattle on the board first. 

Seattle took the lead after holding LA to a three and out on the open drive of the day. Sam Darnold started the game with a bang on this deep shot to Shaheed to put SEA in striking range.

Matt Stafford knows this game is all going to come down to him, but he's getting his guys jacked up for kick off which is coming up in a few minutes. 

The Patriots are heading to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2019. Drake Maye took this run for a first down as New England closed out the Broncos in Denver. They await tonight's winner from Seattle. 

12th man affect 

It's no secret the Seahawks have one of the best home field advantages in the league. They get loud in Seattle, and the 12th man serves as just another obstacle for opposing offenses that are looking to figure out ways to score on this top rated defense. Matt Stafford even gave the Seahawks fans some love this week. “It is as good an atmosphere as there is in football. I can’t imagine the NFC Championship not just exceeding those expectations,” said Stafford. They might have a great home field advantage, but two of the Seahawks three losses this season came at home. One to San Fran in Week 1 and another to Tampa Bay in Week 5.

Top offense vs. Top defense 

It's the dream matchup when you talk about two teams that are battling for a spot in the Super Bowl. Seattle has the best defense in the league, giving up the least amount of points per game at 17.2. Meanwhile the Rams averaged the most yards (394.6), and the most points per game (30.5). Strangely enough, the defensive showdown was won by LA and the game that was played in the 30s was won by the Seahawks. There have been two conference championships that have been played between the top offenses and defense, and the top defensive side has come out on top in every occasion including the 2014 NFC Championship when the Seahawks beat the Packers 

Darnold's big game spotlight 

This isn’t the first time Sam Darnold has been in a big game, but you just wonder if those skeletons still remain in his closet after a last season collapse last year. He had the Vikings in position to win the one seed in the NFC on the final day of the regular season, but he went 18/41 for just 166 yards, and MIN only scored 9 points. They would score just nine points again, in the first round match up against these Rams in a game that he was sacked nine times. Troy Aikman was calling the game, and questioned how this would affect his value in the free agent market. In the head to head matchup for the one seed in San Francisco in Week 18, he had 198 yards on 20/26 passing. Last week he had just 124 yards on 12/17 passing. He has not yet had to go out and win a game, and that might be what he needs to do tonight against the Rams. 

Previous match ups 

This will be the third time these two teams play this season, and if history repeats tonight, we are in for a treat. Both of the first two games came down to the final play. The first game in LA was won by the Rams after Sam Darnold threw four INTs. Despite the four picks, the Seahawks still have a chance to win the game with a 61 yard FG that was missed by Jason Myers as time expired. The next game in Seattle was one of the games of the season. The Rams went up 30-14 with 13:34 to go in the 4th quarter. The Seahawks came roaring back to tie the game up after two TDs and two two point conversions in the final 8 minutes of the game. The game went to OT, LA scored, and SEA responded but went for the win on the 2 point conversion and that was huge in getting them the 1 seed in the NFL. 

Seahawks star watch 

Sam Darnold has been the steady presence that the Seahawks have needed under center in his first season in Seattle. The Vikings let him go after his career revived last year, and now he is a game away from leading his team to the Super Bowl. He has been great at times, and other times he has been great at managing games. He passed for 4,048 yards with 25 TDs and 14 INTs in the regular season, which isn't going to win him any MVP votes, but with a defense like he has backing him up, he didn’t need to be an MVP. Last week the Seahawks put up 41 points, but he passed for just 124 yards while connecting on 12/17 throws.

There is a blizzard in Denver but the weather in Seattle is perfect. It's sunny, and crisp and it's dry. Aaron Donald and Tom Brady had a sunny salute in the pregame as two of the best to ever to it share some love before the game. 

Rams star watch 

The Rams have the top offense in the NFL, and that comes down to one man. Matt Stafford has one a Super Bowl, led the league in passing, and is headed for Canton to be a part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame when he finally hangs it all up. The only thing he hasn't done is win an MVP, or even be close to winning one. That is going to change this season. He and Drake Maye are the only two candidates that have a legit chance to win, and many are favoring the LA QB, who passed for 4,707 yards, 46 TDs and 8 INTs in the regular season. In the playoffs he has averaged 281 yards a game and has thrown for 3 TDs with just one INT. All of the TDs and the INT came in the first game against Carolina, but he passed for 258 yards in the snow up in Chicago last week. Tonight, he needs to have a big night against the top defense in the NFL. 

Seahawks last game 

After their first round BYE, the Seahawks hosted the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. It was another NFC West rivalry match, but it was awfully one sided as the banged up Niners ran out of gas against the top rated defense in the NFL. Rashid Shaheed took the opening kickoff back for a TD, and the Seahawks rolled to victory over the Niners. It was 17-0 before the end of the first quarter and  the Seahawks end up blowing out their NFC West rivals 41-6 to reach the NFC Championship. 

Rams last game 

The Rams went to a snowy, wind, nasty Chicago for their Divisional Round match up against the Bears, and weathered the storm from Soldier Field. It was a low scoring, defensive game for most of the night as both teams struggled to move the ball, and it was 10-10 at half after Caleb Williams threw a TD pass to equal Kyren Williams TD run in the first quarter. After a couple of field goals from each team, it was Williams running his second TD into the end zone mid way through the fourth quarter. Then Williams connected with Cole Kmet on a 4th down Hail Mary that tied the game up with 18 seconds left. The game went into OT, and the Bears stopped the Rams, but then a Kam Curl INT gave LA the ball back and Matt Stafford led his team into FG position. Harrison Mevis closed out the game with a game winning from 42 yards out to move the Rams on to the NFC Championship.
