Update:

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson suffered a hamstring injury in their 37-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4. He left the game in the middle of the third quarter, but by that point, the Ravens were already basically at a point of no return.

Backup quarterback Cooper Rush came in to take his place and finish the game, completing 9-of-15 passes for 52 yards. And he’ll get another shot this week as the Ravens face the Houston Texans in Week 5.

Next man up: Cooper Rush’s experience could be key for Ravens

Jackson will likely miss at least two or three weeks with his hamstring strain. While he’s out, Rush will be given the task of keeping the Ravens’ season alive. The 31-year-old veteran previously stepped up for the Dallas Cowboys when Dak Prescott went down, and brings valuable experience and steadiness to a Ravens team struggling at 1–3.

While he’s got huge shoes to fill with Lamar out, head coach John Harbaugh expressed complete confidence in Rush.

“Cooper is experienced,” Harbaugh said. “He’s been in these situations before, as is Tyler [Huntley]. He’s up to speed. He’s been with us all the way back to the beginning. He’s been in every practice, every meeting, he knows the offense. He’ll be ready to go.

Having already seen limited action against the Chiefs, Rush will now have the spotlight against the Texans in Week 5. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 5 from M&T Bank Stadium.
