The Baltimore Ravens announced that they were unable to agree to a contract extension with Lamar Jackson before the deadline agreed on by the quarterback and everything indicates that the contract was one of the largest in the NFL.

The Ravens quarterback was seeking a contract similar to the one Deshaun Watson got after moving to the Cleveland Browns. The Browns offered an agreement worth a guaranteed $230 million to the former Houston Texan. According to Mortensen, Baltimore offered Jackson a six-year contract for $274 million with $133 million guaranteed.

The franchise tag would be an option for the organization to retain Jackson for the 2023 season, but it would be worth close to $45 million.

In 2021, Jackson had a difficult season as he missed five games with an ankle injury even as he threw a career-high 13 interceptions. The Louisville alumnus generated 2,882 passing yards and 16 touchdown passes, and on the ground he added 767 yards and two touchdowns.
