Report: Tampa Bay Buccaneers sign Carl Nassib

Carl Nassib will return to the Tampa Bay Bucs after spending the last two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. Nassib signed the one year deal on Monday.

Carl Nassib, the first openly gay player in the NFL, had his best individual seasons when he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but moved to Las Vegas two seasons ago. Today it was announced he will return to the NFC South side for the 2022 season.

According to a report tweeted by Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Buccaneers agreed to a one-year contract with Nassib. The financial details of the same have not been revealed.

The defensive end, drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2016 Draft, set had a career season in 2018 when he recorded 6.5 sacks under the tutelage of Todd Bowles, who is now the head coach of Tampa Bay . Nassib also recorded 63 tackles in the best of his two years with Tampa Bay.

During his time with the Raiders, the Penn State product appeared in 27 games and had 49 tackles, eight for loss of yards, deflected five passes at the line of scrimmage, had 4.0 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception.

Depth on the end

With the addition of Nassib, the depth on the outside of the Buccaneers' defensive line will be enhanced. With Bowles' 3-4 system, the former Raiders player could fill the position at outside linebacker.

At best, Nassib would share reps with Joe Tryon-Shoyinka on the opposite side of Shaquill Barrett. The other outside linebackers on the roster are Cam Gill, Andre Anthony, Anthony Nelson and Jojo Ozougwu.
