Rodgers to Metcalf? Steelers’ risky offseason draws mixed forecasts
The Steelers are being called one of the NFL’s biggest boom-or-bust team in 2025 and much of their season is weighing on the success of Aaron Rodgers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers took an aggressive approach this offseason, acquiring star wide receiver DK Metcalf and signing 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a bid to remain competitive. While the addition of top talent, including Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith, signals a win-now mindset, Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon warns that the team could either boom or bust in 2025.

The @steelers didn’t draft a QB earlier in this year’s draft because Mike T knew Aaron Rodgers was on the way. During that time he found out Rodgers’ why, & it made him extremely comfortable with the 4 time MVP. He knew exactly what Rodgers… pic.twitter.com/LXagHwfQDp
Pittsburgh Steelers: boom or bust in 2025?
The New York Jets had a similar idea to the Steelers when they brought on Rodgers and needless to say, that didn’t turn out as they’d hoped. It remains to be seen if Rodgers’ prime in his NFL career is past or if he’s still got star potential left in him.
Gagnon’s best-case scenario sees Rodgers rekindling his “old magic”, finding his groove with Metcalf, and leading the Steelers to an AFC North title.
The worst case? Rodgers falters, chemistry with Metcalf never materializes, and the roster’s lack of depth leads to Mike Tomlin’s first losing season.
Gagnon predicts a middling 9-8 finish and another playoff-free January for Pittsburgh. The Steelers will begin their 2025 regular season on Sunday, September 7 against his former team, the Jets, at MetLife Stadium.
